Anonymous, 30 Jan 2024When the server is your own server, don't tell me you ... moreI believe that you mean "When the server is your own server, don't tell me you *cannot read or do whatever with it??"
You can read encrypted data, but you cannot decrypt it without the correct key. Also, you don't understand end-to-end encryption. It's not for preventing hackers from decrypting the data. It's for preventing the service provider for decrypting the data.

The most recent of these holes were patched just now in iOS 17, and judging by history, it has been relieved by another similar security hole yet to be discovered.

Anonymous, 30 Jan 2024When the server is your own server, don't tell me you ... moreMoral of the story- You are so naive. Apple don't allow even notifications to go without knowing.
In Apple's case all notifications goes through apple server (doesn't matter if app is built-in or 3d party) while in Android's case 3rd party apps notifications come from their own servers.

If you're an iMessage user, when you communicate with an Android user, iMessage will revert to insecure SMS. If iMessage supports RCS, you can communicate with an Android user securely. Anonymous, 29 Jan 2024That's tells me about your mentality around it. It... moreiMessage was iOS standard before RCS became popularized. And if Google had succeeded with one of its 17 messaging apps, they wouldn't care about RCS.
Colors aside, people choose what's best for them, even if it comes down to color. Android motto: "be together, not the same"... well, iMessage users are together and don't care about the 'same' like RCS.
Apple allowing RCS only benefits RCS users, not iMessage users. As a user of both, RCS is glitchy and overrated. WhatsApp, WeChat, Line, Kakao, etc are all better alternatives.

Anonymous, 29 Jan 2024You don't understand end-to-end encryption. Using end-... moreWhen the server is your own server, don't tell me you can read or do whatever with it?? How naive can you be?? Ohh, wait, I'll bet you are not someone in computer / software / operating system educated person 🙄
People here do really believe that end to end encryption bull shit those tech companies and so called expert said 🤦🏻♂️
As far as my knowledge, end to end encryption is are protocol that secure the transmission (data) between one device to other device and if there is a hacker manage to get the data during the transmission. The hacker won't be able to read it as the data was encrypted and scrambled.
In Google RCS case, this so called encrypted data will goes to Google own server before it reaches you. Here's the thing, from your device, the message you sent is going to Google (RCS) server, the server read the message metadata and say this is for Steve. Then, the server send the message to Steve. Now ask yourself, what that means?? Why involved server or servers for that?? Why not just directly from your phone to Steve phone like how you pass some cookies to your neighbor without the middle man? The answer is, Google is collecting data from it. Same goes like when you're sending snail mail from your country to other in different country. The post office will collect the data (county, postcode, address, names, etc) of course the post office guys won't open the mail right? But they collect the data. That's how server do, in some cases, it even made a copy and store your message for later use (like Whatsapp, iMessage and so on) when you need to re-download the message again, maybe after you hard reset your phone or buying new phone.
This Google RCS thing is not hard to figure out (for people with knowledge / educated in computer science) but for most of the people out there, when they read or heard the word "End to end encryption" boom, they head will say, I'm safe, no need to worries. Tell me, what safe vault or key that can't be unlocked or hacked?? My answer is NONE. All doors, save vault or keys is not built to be unlocked or open. People will find a way to open it. Like Apple iPhone case. When the FBI asked Apple to unlock the terrorist iPhone and Apple refuse to do so (not that Apple can't unlock, just Apple have they own stand for it) in the end, the FBI asked a israeli company to help them unlock the phone and yes, they did.
Moral of the story, don't be naive 🙄🤦🏻♂️

Only Google's proprietary RCS has E2EE - which is *not* what Apple is implementing (nor is Google offering to open up).
