Exynos at it again. You would think Samsung learned something from last year, but no.

I hate Samsung for having Exynos in this model. I was (technically, still "am"...) looking to finally replace my P30 Pro and this was gearing up as the perfect replacement, but alas, Samsung had to ruin it with that inefficient e-waste. There is still NO phone for me to replace my P30 Pro with.
S24+ - pretty much perfect BUT the Exynos ruins it
S24 Ultra - too expensive, too large
Oneplus 12 - very good, but I'd be anxious to use it while not having the IP68 rating and I'd like a flat screen again, also worse (shorter) software support than Samsung and Google
Magic6 Pro - only 3 OS updates, big cutout on the front of the screen for the "faceid" that I don't care about, niche choice since Honor is only now starting to gain ground in Europe
Pixel 8 Pro - similarly to S24+ bad battery life thanks to a bad soc, also pixels are officially unavailable where I live so I can't easily get an invoice for my self employment
iPh*ne - lmao
Motorla Edge - short software support
Sony - don't like the brand, but besides, their phones aren't good enough for me objectively speaking
Realme - I like the design, but they are not good enough in the camera department for my preferences
Xiaomi - I will wait to see what Xiaomi 14 brings once it's available here, though I'm anxious about living with MIUI (Hyper OS now?), I've only heard bad things about it
Vivo, Oppo, etc. - too niche brands for me, I'd like something with plenty of accessories available, reliable software support and so on
The only real options for me are S24+, Oneplus 12 and perhaps Mi 14 Pro - all three of which have serious drawbacks that I'm not sure I could tolerate. It's ridiculous because I WANT to throw my money at a phone maker for a new phone, but they don't want it, apparently. Sad state of affairs.

I guess that was to be slightly expected because of the display upgrade.
Curious with the S24U, people are having mixed results.
The gaming results are crap though.

Sad to see that the Exynos 2400 clearly is still really inefficient..

DarlingYext, 31 Jan 2024So overall, it's hardly any better than the small S24,... more1440p is a baf move in s24+ ... this resolution is power hungry AF ; no optimization can help

For everyone crying about gaming, don't be imbeciles. Higher resolution, much more powerful chipset, what did you expect. OnePlus 12 has a much bigger battery and with the Snap 8 gen 3 it's only marginally better than the S24+ at gaming. Let's wait for the S24 ultra scores.

Classic exynos, I had the worst experience with my s20 Ultra 990 chip. But its been a trend over many year now for high on time usage

the addition of more small cores must've helped in achieving that video playback result it's just weird that video playback of all things is better whereas talk time and web browsing are worse and let's not talk about the gaming. I think this year is going to be "one of those" years where tech needs one more year to properly get good, we saw it with TVs with the LG G1 compared to the G2 and GPUs with the RTX 20 series compared to the 30 series. In order to chase more power companies forgot the most important thing in a phone, efficiency. Yeah the one time max is great and laptop class but after 20 mins it becomes worse than or as bad as 2 year old phones. Companies should seriously consider making stuff more efficient instead of chasing worthless power figures. Apps don't make much use of it anyways.

So overall, it's hardly any better than the small S24, and much worse than the S23+, but the S24 can actually do more gaming and almost them same amount of video playback. Both of them were tested with the Exynos 2400, so I'm now really curious about the S24+ Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 model's battery life. Maybe the higher resolution of the S24+ hasn't yet been properly optimized on the Exynos models, and that's why the battery life is what it is as of right now.

"but for now, we can say that the battery life of the Galaxy S24+ is not bad it's just not better than that of its predecessor."
C'mon really? 5h less talk time, 2.5h less gaming? It's worse than most it's direct competitors and specially it's worse than the model last year despite having 200mAh more. It's bad enough for me and shows a big fail with the exynos soc again in an area where it should have improved more: efficiency.

funkyboj, 31 Jan 2024wow...200mAh bigger battery then last years S23+ and the ba... moreIt's worse because of Exynos, that's the model they used for testing
But a Snapdragon S24 plus would without a doubt beat the S23 plus
So they should re do this test again but using the Snapdragon model this time

Will people here again cheer the battery life even though it‘s much worse than its predecessor at no form factor advantage like size or weight?
