If they increase a price to (let say) 5000€, maybe they will make the profit on that 3000 devices that they sell.

potato4k, 21 Feb 2024The rumor can be partially true. I'm sure Oppo already... moreWell said. While everyone here talks about the Open like it is the best thing since the landline was invented, the N3 hasn't established itself as the go-to in China where books folds are more popular than flips. That title goes to Huawei and Honor.
China will probably account for 3-4 million of the 16 million foldable sales through '23. If things play out as expected, Oppo will be 4th place place behind Samsung. That's no reason to close up shop. Especially when projections point to 100 million sales by 2030, but they have work to do to establish themselves in their own backyard.

"...and can look forward to the OnePlus Open 2 and the Find N4 Flip.''
GSMArena should know better and recognize that oppo will most likely skip the no.4.

Oppo had rollable phone prototype in 2021 and i just hope my phone can last till there is one to actually buy.
It could be more durable and cheaper than foldables because only one screen and even less cameras(compared to big foldables)

That's great news. We need competition in the market especially when it comes to devices being sold outside of China.
Now that Oppo have settled their differences with Nokia they need to get their devices back in Europe quickly.
However they seem to be slow off the mark as I contacted Oppo the other day and they told me that they currently have no plans to bring the Find X7 series to Europe.

Vivo X Fold3 leaked two times this month so I don't think they need to make a public statement.
The rumor was ridiculous anyway.

Support is not just software, but also repair centers, and in emerging markets, OEMs like Oppo and Vivo do put some effort in building up their repair centers. But yeah, software is definitely not their forte.

Would've been stupid for them to give up on foldables, especially since along Samsung, Oppo's foldables are the best honestly

potato4k, 21 Feb 2024Selling things outside China is not easy.
In western mar... moreChinese phone makers mostly have to contend with the threat of US sanctions and Western propaganda when selling outside of China. Their products are fine and usually industry leading.
Patent infringement isn't limited to Chinese firms. Have a look at Apple and their patent infringing Apple watches. And all Oppo wanted was for Nokia to charge a fair price.

t... moreSelling things outside China is not easy.
In western markets, the Chinese have to be ready with the risk of legal litigations for any sort of IP theft or licensing requirements. Remember the Nokia lawsuit? Plus they have to make deals with carriers as most people buy phones through carrier contracts.
In emerging markets, it's easier to enter as there are less scrutiny for IP infringements and most people buy phones outright without carrier contracts. But buying power is not as high, and Samsung is also playing in these markets, and Samsung has higher brand equity.

The rumor can be partially true. I'm sure Oppo already has some future foldables in the pipeline. These things are planned years in advance. But I'm sure they're afraid of Samsung releasing a cheaper foldable. Once that happens, they are practically dead and might as well leave the segment. Samsung has the upper hand in margin and cost control as they make their own components. Oppo has to rely on 2nd tier parts and try to upsell it as premium to gain some margin. Considering Oppo spent a ton on marketing, if there's a price war with Samsung, Oppo will lose

Oh they will. They all will.
Foldables are useless pointless gimmicks. There's no future for the form factor. Not under the current ridiculous sizes when closed. And Oppo messed up massively with the Find N3 in that area.
Consumers have spoken. They're not interested in foldables. Oppo can continue to sink money into them but what for? In chase of a market that isn't there? Seems very dumb to me.
Then again they do get subsidies from the CCP like all other Chinese companies so I guess it's more a question of when will the CCP stop funding foldables.
