The reason foldables aren't growing the way some people imagined a few years ago is because Apple has not made one. It has nothing to do with durability issues or being too expensive. I know someone who still uses a Fold 2. At the same time you can get Razr 40 or last year's Z Flip 4 for like $500.

No wonder OPPO and Vivo gave up with foldables. These are very low numbers for a whole year, after all these years people just don't care about foldables and i don't think that will change.

Xiaomi 3rd over oppo/oneplus is very surprising. The n2 and n3 flips are the most popular flip phones in China rn and everyone has been boasting about the oneplus open and the find n3

OBI Wan, 23 Feb 202415.9 m compared to total 1140.4 m smartphones shipped last ... moreThat laughable number is because of high price point. The foldable tech is still far from maturation. As the tech becomes more and more mature, the price will decrease, adoption rate will increase and apple has to catch up with this trend.
Apple is still not making foldables because they are waiting for foldable tech to mature so that they can copy it and boast it as greatest innovation ever.

Samsung’s snare of the foldable market
is expected to drop down to60% in2024.

well in the 2nd paragraph states that samsungs snare
which left me amazed and confused at the same time
wondering a smartphone has a skill or an ultimate too

                !

Let's get some hard numbers. Hopefully my math skills doesn't embarrass me like my pancake pourage.

                  Samsung 10,557,600
                  Huawei 1,892,100
                  Xiaomi 842,700
                  Others 2,607,600

A couple of observations. Samsung is way below their expectations. They expect to make it up in '24 with 20 million sales.

How is Xiaomi 3rd with 842k? Reports were Honor sold 800,000 V2's in Q3. Assuming those numbers were true, they likely hit close to or over a million by Q4. Multiple sources reported this. Oppo N3 could have thrown a monkey wrench into things, but the V2 came out over a month earlier than the Mix. Again, I need to see the Chinese market share breakdown because these figures don't seem right.

OBI Wan, 23 Feb 202415.9 m compared to total 1140.4 m smartphones shipped last ... moreSony dont really have the budget to develop foldables. To make a foldable Sony viable, Sony would need to price it much higher than foldables from Samsung. How many $2500 foldable do you think Sony can sell given their limited market reachability and well known reluctance to spend on marketing?

They are churning out phones that need the least amount of R&D budget each year because their mobile division is basically dying. Things improved a bit for Sony in 2021 and 2022 but they lost all those gains in 2023.

I bought the Flip 5 with having Fold 1 and 3 and i hope we can get rollable phones soon.

Having normal size phone and make it bigger when needed would be at least for me be better than Flip with half the size.

With rollable phone there could be normal big sensor cameras and the phone itself could be just a little bit thicker than normal smartphone.

                        2. Total phone sales of SONY is even way smaller to be even compared with sales of FOLDABLES from Samsung. Why would sony want to make another failed foldable sony phone 🤣

Sooner or later, Apple will join in as the tech matures and can be produced in large volume. We will see foldable tech being used on an iPad or Mac first though.

Problem is that for some reason the chip inside has issues, it even stutters with simple tasks like making a picture, no idea of that's a Moto issue or Qualcomm, because under normal circumstances Moto phones run better than that.

Motorola needs to get their head in the game. I may partake in a Razr 40 with 7 Gen 1. Seems like a good package but the battery is what worries me.

It's about time. Thanks GSM! Been searching weeks for these numbers. I'll read this later. Hopefully the breakdown in China is included.
