Anonymous, 24 Feb 2024X7 pro is larger than mi 14 ultra. True but it's a tiny difference. Would anyone really notice that in daily use?

My point was that the telephoto and ultrawide sensors aren't that large and that it is possible to fit in larger sensors (this was in response to a commentor who stated they were large)

Looks like DSC on his weibo has admitted this.
Bump is going to be easily 5-6 mm thicker than current.

Aierlan, 24 Feb 2024Yeah. My comment was just based on the size of the sensors.... moreYour argument could be made for the other camera you, but the other way around you know. 5x telephoto on 14 Ultra and 6x telephoto on X7 Ultra have the same sized sensor, but the difference in aperture is gigantic. And I would much prefer to have very bright aperture on telephoto than ultrawide which is already good enough and plenty comparable.

punmeisterone, 24 Feb 2024Technically Xiaomi compensates with larger apertures. If yo... moreYeah. My comment was just based on the size of the sensors. Oppo basically fit larger sensors into a similar sized phone so it is possible to do this. The ultrawide on the find x7 ultra is also much bigger with only a small gap in aperture. Pretty sure Xiaomi will improve on the sensor size for telephotos/periscopes and ultrawide next year.

Better internals, same layout. That's good.
Teardown looks easy enough but since the phone packs so much there's quite a lot to go through and it looks pretty modular. The only thing I see that might be unrepairable is the side volume and power buttons but I'd assume those are just the "keycaps" and the actual switches are replaceable. The gutted frame looks more sturdy than the Samsung and iPhone alternatives. The battery's pull tab is still the same one they've had for years now and its a much better version than Samsung's. Very nice.

                    No one will purchase that...

If you compare the medium telephotos of the 14 Ultra and X7 Ultra by Full Frame standards, both capture the same amount of light at about f/11 for both. Same goes for the ultrawide cameras.

The difference is that the Oppo has better per-pixel quality with its large 2um pixels, while Xiaomi has a longer focal length and the fact it can focus as close as 10cm for macro shots, compared to the 25cm of the Oppo.

Darth Caesium, 23 Feb 2024How about proper variable focal aperture, like the one on t... moreThat could very well be the next Xperia Pro-I II, since it was rumored on Weibo this January that it will have four 64MP Exmor-T cameras, one primary with a one inch sensor, and three companions with 1/1.54" inch sensors, with the leaker hinting that it will be a camera setup identical to the Xiaomi 13 Ultra (as in having a 0.5x, 1x, 3.2x and 5x setup).

But that one will probably cost 2500$ as well, so you win some and you lose some.

rizki1, 23 Feb 2024That 1 inch main camera is BIG, and fits 3 other big camera... moreThe other sensors aren't that big though. The Oppo Find x7 ultra has the same main sensor but a bigger ultrawide and far bigger imx890 for the 2.7x which is also a periscope which takes even more space. The 6x is the same imx858 that Xiaomi is using for the additional sensors. I think they could have fit slightly bigger extra sensors if they wanted to but they are probably saving the bigger zoom and ultrawide sensors for the Xiaomi 15 ultra. If they make too big upgrades to those on this model there will be nothing left to improve next year

GAMIR3DH, 24 Feb 2024So now its ok when Xiaomi keeps the same design. But not others?Well 13U was not officially released in most western countries while in Asia we have the opportunity to get the official version. So 14U this time is to be released as global version. Nothing wrong to not change what's worked so well..beside the 14U now have a damn good satellite calling feature which the 13U never had plus a bigger better battery.

                                    - xiaomi does not have deal with sony semicon to use exmor T. Do not expect to have, much easier to quit sony in favor of omnivision OV50K in the future because it is cheaper.
                                    - mi 14 ultra is thinner than x7 ultra.
                                    - no brand is going to use variable aperture on all cameras, price is an issue. Brands every year do cuts to avoid increasing BoM. Xiaomi is already even using domestic screens to save costs. It is easier for huawei to use 10 levels because camera is smaller than xiaomi.

Camera 1/2" behind f2.6 already performs poorly. Imagine f4.0.
                                    Equivalent to FF f21.

You bizarre request would cost more than $100. No brand is going to spend this value on camera system.
