LoneOwl, 25 Feb 2024Xiaomi once again releases a strong cameraphone flagship wi... moreI would not downvote you, but as someone who knows Xiaomi brand since its beginning, there's one thing that you should know. MIUI/Hyper OS isn't optimized for each device equally. Ofc that they didn't put much effort in Redmi/Poco rom development. And they also may be some ads on cheaper models so they can keep the price low. The second and unpopular opinion is that so called ULTRA phones especially from xiaomi aren't even there for mass market. It's a niche market of targeted users, but the model Itself is built with purpose of spreading the word of how xiaomi make a beast with best camera on the market. So look at that as marketing move, not mass market release.

Xiaomi once again releases a strong cameraphone flagship with wrong pricing, outside of China.
1500euro starting price for just one version= no sales.
Also i may get downvoted for this but as a Poco/Xiaomi tablet owner atm, i would never spend over 800-900 on a Miui(hyperOS) xiaomi device.

"and mostly kept the hardware."
1. The lowest f-number of the main camera is now 1.63 instead of 1.9, this increases the total amount of light per exposure time by 36% at f/1.63.
2. The effective lens diameter of the periscope camera is now 7.76mm instead of 6.47mm. The largest effective diameter of any smartphone camera (Huawei P60 Pro has 6.93mm, Galaxy K Zoom has 6.98mm). 44% more light per exposure time from distant objects, 44% better resolution limit for distant objects (diffraction) and also blurrier background objects.
3. The effective lens diameter of the 75mm camera is now 6.82mm instead of 5.48mm, this leads to 55% more light from objects per exposure time and also blurrier background objects. The 75mm camera also uses a larger sensor area than previously, so even in perfect light conditions the noise performance should be better. It also has roughly 49 effective megapixels whereas the previous 75mm camera had roughly 32 effective megapixels.

TheLastOracle, 25 Feb 2024The difference in dynamic range between a M43 and 1inch sen... moreDR is not everything. Recovering highlights on dng is so easy and takes 10s.
It is nothing worth if phone indeed comes with 22mm, that would mean 12,7mm bump (current ones use 6-6.5mm bump). Only way to mitigate is to use 15-16mm lens , cancel super wide, put digital options of 24 and 35mm. But edges and face distortions cant be fixed.
This is desperate move just to show off. Imx903 for iphone 16 pro is exmor T 1/1.14". It is already stronger than imx989/Lyt900. Xiaomi should just order something like this, but surely not gonna pay the price it costs (100% more than imx989).
It is beyond bizarre from design point of view. Not even counting extra weight.
Bump would be about 33% thicker than the own phone.

Especially if ine can create a brighter lens on the 1inch sensor.

From weibo ( yes, this is about prototype of mi 15 ultra"
" Let’s try to introduce a camera phone with a thickness of 22mm at its thickest point to the market, right?"
" The next mobile phone will increase the direction of the main camera sensor: Type ~4/3 + 12~13mm physical focal length (equivalent to 24~26mm) F1.8. There is a high probability that Haowei will supply CIS. Suitable for a three-camera solution with one large camera (Type 4/3) and two small cameras (Type 2/3)."
" M4/3 being the main camera of a mobile phone is not a matter of height. Some modules are not of 13mm level. The problem is still width. After all, if such a large sensor is placed in a mobile phone, the remaining space will be reduced, making it difficult to place other cameras.[bad laugh]
At present, the three-camera solution is still feasible, but the four-camera + main camera with a 4/3-inch image field is a bit excessive. You can’t really let the camera take over the phone."
Notes: 2/3" is about 1/1.5". Hoawei = omnivision

Xiaomi definitely isn't xiaoming around with it's latest entry in the "ultra" class of phones.
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra seems to be a promising package, delivering excellent specs for a premium price.
I hope to see a review of this phone soon.
