26 February 2024
The Ultra , along with the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4, were used instead of traditional cameras and monitors.

Xiaomi isn't actually doing any better in software support. There are even several 13 Ultra users who still didn't get Android 14 with HyperOS 1.0 update.

At the end of the day, it's not about having the best-grade equipment or hardware. It's about what you can do with them. It's not surprising to see a lot of people leave their dedicated DSLR/Mirrorless camera behind and only use smartphones as the primary photography and/or videography gear.

Anton el .PAPI, 26 Feb 2024Also Nokia DID this with the Nokia N8 and then Microsoft wi... moreI dont understand your point you try to make with the phone prices. 10-15 years ago phones were cheaper if we look back to that time with the wallet we have now and not with the wallet we had at the time 10-15 years ago. All these phones were expensive at that time these were released as these were top end flagship phones

I'm not surprised to see smartphones in film making anymore. What does surprise me is that Samsung has yet to reach this level of quality. As an avid Samsung user, I would like very much for Samsung to develop a "creator phone" of sorts, with attachable lenses and such.

I love Samsung's tech, and I wouldn't really use anything else, but even I realize that other manufacturers have better cams than Samsung's devices. Maybe they need help from Sony? IIRC, Sony puts some of their best camera sensors in their devices, yet they go mostly unnoticed by the general public. I guess it's because the software is too limiting?

Anyhow, here's hoping others can prove Samsung phones are actually worth being used for movie making in some capacity.

You are seriously trying to convince yourself that S23U/24U's horrible oversharpened 720p upscaled to 4K is better than the 14 Ultra's 10 Bit Log footage (also capable of RAW video)?! A 1 inch sensor with f1.6 aperture with dual native ISO according to you produces worse image quality than the horrible 1/1.3 inch 200 MP HP2 sensor on the 23U/24U?!

Mate have you used a real mirrorless camera? If not then you never tasted raw image quality with soft natural details. Would pick an image with minimal processing over oversharpened junk any day of the week.

The quality is nowhere near the similar "short films" shot with iPhone and Galaxy S Ultras. Dynamic range, low light performance and focussing are still behind the best.

Xiaomi is still behind in real-time processing, even though their sensors and lenses might be good.

                        Oh well, maybe next year.

"Because of the amount of hand-held shooting required for the film, the producers and crew decided to shoot using the digital Red One 4K camera. Cinematographer Trent Opaloch used nine digital Red Ones owned by Peter Jackson for primary filming."

I kind of remember one movie was filmed with the iphone before so i dont see much of a problem doing it now 15 years later when the digital cameras have advanced a lot.

Never mind that all the filtering and editing will be still done with computers and how much of the quality is left from the raw material that got filmed in the first place

GSMArena should stop using real cameras to record and take photos for reviews and YouTube... let's see how people notice it.
