DeepIn2U, 01 Mar 2024Oppo Find N2 is NOT a global launched phone lol. Alao units... moreFind N2 Flip. Not Find N2.

Kinda like this. Looks like a futuristic slab of metal that's a phone.

toaa, 28 Feb 2024R&D cost a lot, Samsung folding hinge system cost a lot... moreSlightly incorrect.

Chinese phone manufacturer's like pretty much ALL Chinese business get a HUGE grant - which alows government a hefty hand of control and data monitoring of saif companies. Oppo spent a HUGE FORTUNE for hinge innovation and patents since the Oppo Find N2 series and doubled down on the N3 series. Yet they ignored the actual display itself other than the carbon backing to ensure a more rigid unfold to further flatten the inner disolay when ooened.

Samsung just improved the screen with certified testing to STD-MIL-810 levels and comoliance which is HUGE! Samsungs is going to make a fortune swlling such acreens to their competitor's ;) thatll recoup the R&D spending this time around where the oversl global smartphone sales begins to pickup back to normal, the last 2yrs have been a significant drop in sales across the entire baord.

2025 we'll see significant innovations from Samsung. You just dont spend needlessly at this stage of dominance when you manufacturer and support (Warranty) this many products which easily is double or over 40x all competition due to vast number of products in dmsrtphones and tablets Samsung has.

Why do you think the design langauge teickles down so quickly to the non S Galaxy line?! scaling production cosst down, repair costs down (both externally and internally) why do you think Toyota, Nissan, and Ford do not make significan changes to cars (beyond lights or a bumper due to regulations or exhaust for same reasons) every year?! Its usually evrry 5-10 yrs youd see a signifant facelift or an entirely new product. Something ford has failed at twice in 2-3 decades Probe/Probe GT was to replace the Mustang lmao !! Then the Mustang Mach E which is being priduced but at significantly lower number and poor sales show!

So thr lesson here is rapidly changing products dedign tok much evry year has HUGE costs and significantly costly side effects if yu get it wrong.

Samsung has saved crucial and critical funds and let the competition, their customers too ill remind you pick up the refinement innovation cost and passed on the information.

Phantom showed smaller and thinner package is hesvily desired and needed.
Oppo showed that both the crease NEEDS to be significantly minimized woth the goal of it finally disappearing BUT we dont know how long that can last when priduct is in long term use of the customer.
Also Oppo showed that a larger outer display is desired and wanted much more than a smaller outter screen that only works for people that wesr suits.

Both shown above we'll see in the Z Fold 6. Yet nobody is coming anywhere close to IP rating nor on software innovstions such as Samsunng Dex which is significantly powerful and VERY useful.

I dont even own a computer right now and havent really since August when i purchased my S23. For much of my personal needs I dont miss a PC much and i can run Kali Linux to use on my external LCD monitor/TV.

Adapters and various things like MicroSD cards is where i get annoyed and stuck but software wise im good! Gaming im ok with COD but i will get a mini PC for real gaming and python training in May.

Software is the KEY for smartphones and has been for almost 7yrs. Sure the hatdwsre component is important ad well as thr design and choice of materials but lets be honest here the Camera has been the primary selling point made for every phone every year! But when the product is in your hands folks how you USE it and your appreciation of liking it comes down to how polished and the breadth of softwsre and what it can allow you to do is critical!

[deleted post]That's actually a fair analysis. I apologise for not knowing the more esoteric side of Nokia's product stack. Still, I can't help but remain annoyed that the Z Flip 6 does almost nothing new on the hardware side.

The 50MP main camera is a great addition, but it was long overdue anyway, and it should really get a 3× telephoto.
The Z Flip6 really should just be a flip-style foldable version of the Samsung Galaxy S24+. 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide (still very annoyed at Samsung for not using at least 50MP 1/2.0"-type sensors for the ultrawide, but whatever), 10MP 3× telephoto, just with everything arranged vertically instead of horizontally; same 12MP selfie; a 10-bit HDR-covering, 120Hz, 3120×1440, LTPO AMOLED display with a 2600nit peak brightness; an outer display with the same characteristics and similar PPI to the inner one; two under-display fingerprint sensors, one on the inner display and one on the outer one; smaller bezels, though I can understand the difficulty in having thin bezels in a flip-style foldable; Samsung's rumoured Ironflex technology (no clue if its going to be on the flip); 12GB of RAM and two UFS4.0 storage options, 256GB and 512GB; and 45W fast charging.

Darth Caesium, 28 Feb 2024That's fair, which is why they could always make it at... moreActuallt no it doesnt make sense, not in the real world.

Think simoly on physics in use.
You have the S-pen magnetically attached in a certain area on the back outside of the Z Fold 6. Now place that priduct in your khakis front pocket or your suits inside pocket or in your man-purse or a womans purse (which we all know is an entirely full portal of stuff that makes your heard hurt trying to figure how so much things can be in there and ladies can ACTUALLY find anything their looking for lol (if you have a woman youd laugh and understand no offense ladies we appreciate you all).

How frequently do you think that small tiny minimal weight S-pen would gwt dislodged by inset or exit of any of these pockets or bags per day?! How often do you think that S-pen would end up on the floor (kicked around by ither pedestrians and gone forever) -OR- lost in such a sea of things in a purse leaving the end user scrambling for appearing clueless in front of a partner or client?!

How strong to do feel that magnet MUST be to prevent the lost scenarios Ive given above and how limited that magnetic screen must be to avoid issues affecting the screen or battery or even sensors of the camera or potential wireless charging and even affect dust ingress?!

How much more costs to source or recycle rare earth magnets to accomolish this comolicstion?!

There you have it when thought theough its a bad concept wothout solving these. Havinf a slim crutch case better refined than the Fold 5's for the S-Pen works better but the best is the internal Silo which Samsung still hasnt figured out nor the competition.

In my mind the silo couldve been part of the hinge design without adding any moving parts but the refinement of foldables has deminushed or almost completely erased the hinge from site making it more of a plaque for the comoany brand ;)

I think when the SoCs become much more significantly power efficient, say 40% across the board more efficient than the Qualcomm 8 Gen 3 .. the rhe battery capacity can be smaller to accomodate an S-Pen silo without sacrficing battery life, health and lingevitiy for the Fold series.

Darth Caesium, 28 Feb 2024You know, Nokia and BlackBerry looked at the whole phone sc... moreThe other problem with this thought process is Darth completely forgets WHY Samsung jumped into Android OS in the first place rapidly leaving their licenses woth Nokia's S60 and Microsoft's Windows Smartphone edition.

Samsung saw where they could BOTH innovate and supply the hardware for themselves AND their competitors along with the software!

Everyone keeps saying it takes just one hardwsre manufacturer to topple Samsung's sominance with the Flip or Fold series they created. But the END user experiences still falls short for them all.

Oppo's Find N3 i had hoped would remain small like the N2 but Im glad I was wrong. Ans i love the design of the N3 and they did great on the software side in terms of utilizing the screen but BEYOND that simple and single flex, there is nothing more and a few glitches in use that their having to utilize their software team more than usual to resolve. That means delays in security patches and OS Bugs beaidss that. This costs money.

And correction The Oppo is the Parent company while OnePlus is the sister comoany and product. This is precisely why THEIR launch of the Find N3 was not only first but much more of a refined and coherent launch throughout the entire presentation from all speakers where as OnePlus was a comolete joke and looked like amateurs presenting the product and literary the EXACT same talking points if hardware and software of the product.

It shouldnt have been so terrible yet apparantly OnePlus' team was ONLy involved for global marketing and warranty support and that volume slider, ans their team did NOT reherse enough and it shows! Lol

Darth Caesium, 28 Feb 2024Honestly, you know what? This is a completely garbage take.... moreI understand the need for all the bells and whistles based on the sale price. What youre failung to critically ignore is the target market and their need along with Samsung's intended use cases for the phone (which crested this market segment in part; Nokia is the originator).

Think of the business professional that truly will need to edit documents, oarticipate in 1-3hr long video conferences at the hotel and would avoid carrying a laptop in a carry over luggage in the plane but would for a premium tablet ahould longer editing and need for full entertainment for more than 3 evenings would push for.

Such a professional would also show off details of various documents on 1:1 meetings and to solidify a deal say over a coffee or a few drinks and orduevs at the restaurant or bar having a large screen with absokutrly MINIMAL weight and of course an S-Pen for a proper ironclad signature with certificate authenticity would be a very common set of senarios!

Youve seen Oppo's pre announcement commercials advertising the Find N3 specifically showing how a larger screen both in and out could realmy change not the perception or whata poasible but how it truly works in real life and how much more useful a folding screen can be!

              Thats the key.!

Prior to touch screen smartphones Nokia knew this and their original Communicator series the 9000i (featured in Val Kilmer's adaptation of the movie The Saint) evolved to the Nokia E3 (?) which along the various iterarions evolved since the original STILL out lasted the UIQ touch screen variant of Symbian OS which SonyEriccson, Motorola and a few others banked on yet just didnt match up and i bekive the hardwsre design was truly limited by thr technology of thr time. SE made some great Symbian UiQ phones like the P900, P910 ans especially the P990i but no proprr global sales target hurt those products.

justasmile, 28 Feb 2024Yeah, makes sense. But I barely see any Find N2 Flip issue ... moreOppo Find N2 is NOT a global launched phone lol. Alao units produces dont even flinch as samsunga Fold series. Think production number just shy of double or triple of the Fold 1 (which was 30'0000 unitsblimited run).

Again higher production numbers then the statistic of percentage of failures will ever so slightly increase.

Anonymous, 28 Feb 2024I don't think any company can truly get rid of it with... moreWell saod regarding thr foldable screen. Ive veen reading Oppo has been garberung similar criticism over their screens and warranry policy in action.

Its surrly a great thing that samsungs folding screen tech has passed MIL-STD-810 testing and certification meaning more rugged and tried and tested under not just extreme use and wear and tear across the elements BUT also longevitity and resistance to damage andbquality of performance in auch tests.

This to me will be the real standard NOT the OPPO claim that the HINGE can fold 10 million times, when nothing is said about the LTPO screen living up to the number of bends.

Clearly youve never had to have a video conferemce and present ation (host / view) and take notes or need to simultaneously work on something critical to complete, yet interact and maybe add more accurate or recent data structures to the presentarion.

Any smartphone Fold-like design, like the Nokia Communicators before it, is NOT simply about havinf a collapsible larger screen for content viewing! Thats where the entire competition MISSED! So it really shows how durable these foldables are. But people saw the finger nails scratching the screen protector and instantly thought all foldables from now and the future are super delicate. 🤣
