MediaTek unveils the 4G-only Helio G91 SoC

28 February 2024
It has a better ISP compared to its predecessors.

4G will become dead within few years.

Because manufacturers can now use UFS 2.2 (except on realme phones choose eMMC) for T606, T612 and T616 device. And its slightly better than Helio G85 to put T616 into the throne of entry level.

And there is T619 as well. Its not a well known chip, and its a refreshed version of T606. But the cpu clock speed, screen refresh rate and ISP are slightly increased. Its a good opportunity to beat Helio G91 in entry level competition

Still uses the old hardware, a refreshed version of Helio G85. In the software side, expect shorter support, reaching end of support to Android 14/15 before entering to 2025.

Due to a kernel version 4.19.191 still stuck right before Android 12 comes out since a few years ago. You might get very stable ofc, at the entry level side. But no further support, fixing them security issues. Its no shot Infinix/TECNO can use Helio G91 on the entry level phones, but its rarher nice.

But instead, go for the better ones like Helio G99, D6100+, D7020 which has better support on the budget ones. I'm such a bad feeling reading this

Guess the G series are for the very budget range now. The Dimensity for the midrange and flagship.

Anders, 28 Feb 2024Don't like it, make your own chipset 🤣🤣Bros really used the same logic I used yesterday and criticized me over it. I won't make my own chipset when MediaTek themselves makes better chipsets lol. This chipset is useless. No phone at like 200 USD needs 108MP, it needs basic lag-free performance. Cameras on a 150 USD phone would likely be decent or bad. We should boycott phones with eMMC and only use UFS 2 and better.

Probably if Helio g100 is basically same as Helio g99

If anyone makes a budget chip with their own custom cores, I really hope they call it the Crotex A75.

What a joke. Not even the fab process was updated. Some midrange chips already use A715 cores, how is it possible to launch a "new" chipset so many generations behind... Bare minimum is A78 cores IMO.

So you're just agreeing with me that his comment was utterly useless.

                                      This chip is obviously garbage.

Nothing should have eMMC support anymore; everything should have a minimum of 6GB of RAM and preferably 8GB; and the lowest tier chip should have the performance of a Helio G99. These ultra-budget chips have barely evolved at all. Seriously, my old Samsung Galaxy A5 2017's Exynos 7880 chipset is only slightly worse than the Helio G35, and if that's the target we're hitting where we get lag even when typing the lock screen password on the keyboard, while using newer versions of Android that are way more RAM-hungry and processing power-hungry, then we've completely lost the plot.
