Weekly poll results: the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is a hit, a pricey hit

03 March 2024
While not a massive improvement over the 13 Ultra, this is shaping up to be one of the best camera phones of 2024. That price is out of reach for many, however.

1.500 € ?!! 😳 That almost as much as the iPhone 15 Pro Max! That's a shame. Hopefully it will cost less here, IF it comes here at all !! I guess this means the Camera is ready to go up against the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Huawei Mate 60 Pro!

Anonymous, 03 Mar 2024Still top brand in China in 2023. Oooooooops. Wake up into reality ship

CargoJoe, 05 Mar 2024Realistically speaking the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is the same phone. And the 13 Ultra is the same as 12S....and...and. Not everyone can understand and appreciate progress. More reading and understanding is needed.

Some people are looking at the retail price the wrong way. The Chinese edition is marginally cheaper alas won't work properly without the global ROM update.

The fact they are available outside China is great. Whilst Samsung and Apple boasts about their cameras, the storage costs and appeal adds to their price. Apple does support Log video and SSD drives though.

Samsung's main appeal is the AI and large sized image formats for imaging. Although 3rd party apps exist which allow for RAW capture in video for all Android devices mostly.

Nobody is suggesting the 14 ultra is superior in all respects however it brings you closer to a compact camera experience, speedy like the rest of Snapdragon gen 3 devices. I saw some xiaomi 13 pro images recently - very impressive.

I used to be a fan of LG phones until they got out of the market. All the mobile networks here sell the same handsets and I'm bored of paying these companies for minor upgrades.

This tech makes sensors cost more than 2x.

This is an enormous camera island... More isn't always better.
Personally, my ideal camera phone works have something like:

1"-type sensor, 23mm, 108MP, Sony stacked pixel tech.

                              1/1.4" sensor, 90mm periscope zoom, 48MP (i.e. the Lytia 800)

That's it. 2 really good sensors and lenses. A large 108MP main lens can provide the standard wide, a 2/3 crop for 35mm standard photos, as well as 2x and 3x sensor crop.

then the telephoto periscope can take over for 4x-8x. A very wide and useful range of focal lengths out of 2 sensors. No need t have such an enormous camera bump (and somehow they still advertise the thinnest part of the body for the thickness even though the camera bump is half the phone)

                                60Hz, less than 3300mAh, 20W charging.
                                Probably still over $800.

Could easily sell more than sub -$250 phones xiaomi and realme brag about.
