In any case it's a good thing when brands bring their own chips. Keeps the major chip manufacturers on their toes. The most innovative component of a smartphone is the processor and more competition is needed. It is the highest r&d cost though for a smartphone manufacturer. So far, amony the smartphone brands only Samsung and Huawei can design processors to a good standard. Oppo have given up on chip design but hopefully Vivo and Xiaomi can design processors in the future to increase the competition.
