David 040882, 07 Mar 2024Yeah, who knows. Maybe a cinema Nikon camera is on the way,... moreHow is the Z8 not adequate as a cinema camera already? 8k60 raw, 4k120, ultra-fast sensor readout...

Anonymous, 07 Mar 2024You have RED cameras? 🤨You don't need to own a certain product to tell that their support is bad/poor. The internet will let you know about it when you search details of said product of said company

Maybe a cinema Nikon camera is on the way, since they've stated that they want to improve and put some focus on the video department of their cameras, since Nikon hasn't always been known as being a major player or offering very capable video cameras until the release of the Z9 and Z8 ILCs. But after these two, they said they want to focus a little more on the video part

I don't know whether we here are all aware of it, but RED sued Nikon recently over the inclusion of compressed raw video in the Nikon Z8. The acquisition has gotta do something with that.
I think it would be fair if Nikon bought RED only to close them, as a payback for RED's patent trolling.

I think the other commenters have it completely backwards. This is not about buying Red's technology to bring to the consumer market. It's about competing with the likes of Sony in the professional video market.

"Jannard and President Jarred Land will get a nice big paycheck from Nikon - the sum hasn't been disclosed, unfortunately."
Umm I think this is none of people's business
The sold the business people's private pay doesn't need to be news....

Very interested to see how this will affect the camera industry. Could RED tech make it to regular Nikon consumer cameras?

How about making stand alone cameras with Android OS? IMAGINE if Nikon makes a camera with its expertise the size of a smartphone (slim & light weight) with better optics, hardware, and softwares.. As the point & shoot camera sales are down, due to smartphones cameras advancement, I think making standalone cameras the size of smartphones such as a stand alone camera the size of S24 Ultra for example with DSLR like capabilities, without the attributes of a smartphone would definitely help the rise of stand-alone pocketable cameras, which may perform better than smartphones in terms of photography and videography, that would be great..

This is interesting
RED has done dirty to the cinematic world by patenting their lossless raw compression tech
Holding back basically the entire camera industry and Nikon sued them for it
Now with this news
I can't wait to see what unravels in the camera tech industry
