DarlingYext, 08 Mar 2024The translation on these posters is absolutely terrible. If... moreWell, translation tools make some errors here and there, but this one is not quite the case. If you open the source link at the bottom and check the original picture, you will see the way they have written the word "Origin" the letter "g" is separated in the middle; so it implies Ori ai nos; the ai is there so it emphasizes it has some AI features in it like Galaxy AI, hopefully. That is probably the reason they postponed all their launches.

Erm, didn't a previous report specify both a water AND dust rating? If only the dust resistance from Moto (IP52) could be combined with the water resistance from Samsung (IPX8), we would have a marvel on our hands.

Anonymous, 08 Mar 2024Oh no, not under display fingerprint scanner Looks like ... moredid you use the S10 for like the first week and then stop using it or something? Because apart from that nearly everyone likes or at least is content with Ultrasonic scanners. I tried a family member's S10 3 years ago and it was solid in terms of its fingerprint scanner.

Take a look at the X90 Pro+'s reviews or the X80 Pro's reviews. The Ultrasonic scanners used by Vivo are hands down the best available currently. The only thing I can complain about these scanners is the fact that screen protectors seem to mess with the accuracy.
I use an S22 U and have seen similar results to my previous phone an M32, they both seem similarly accurate, both have problems when the finger is dry af so I must clean it on my clothes or something but the S22 U has less problems with it AND I can open it with sweaty/wet hands which is a huge plus for me due to the hot climate of my country and a reason why I'm afraid to go back to optical fingerprint scanners for. Optical ones nowadays are faster than Samsung's one BUT Vivo's ones are just as fast if not faster, have a HUGE area AND since they are ultrasonic, don't need to light up and most likely are compatible with wet hands. I hope they make it available to more phones and especially on their global phones again, everyone who reviewed the X80 Pro was a huge fan of the fingerprint scanner and that thing gives me serious FOMO lol

I am starting to lean into Vivo phones, if only they promised 5 years of OS updates.

Anonymous, 08 Mar 2024Oh no, not under display fingerprint scanner Looks like ... moreWhat phones have you tried with UD fingerprint scanners? There are different companies making both optical and ultrasonic fingerprint sensors, and that difference is a huge deal.

The thinness and the lightness claims make me so bloody excited!! The X Fold 2 was a minor upgrade or should I say, a sidegrade, felt like you lost some features (super telephoto) whilst gaining new ones (better main cam and chip. How they'll manage 5500 mah battery into a phone that's not only thin but also light is slightly dubious to me, but regardless, I'm pretty sure Vivo will get great due to their pretty good optimization as seen in the X100 Pro. This phone having the Ultrasonic fingerprint scanners just makes me wonder why the X100 Pro, a global model, didn't get it, they seem to reserve this amazing tech for their best phones which only come out in China like the X90 Pro+. Anyways, if the main cam is bigger than 1/1.35" then it'd be an absolute homerun from Vivo I think. But well time will tell if these are real or are actually just too good to be true. Hope Vivo can steal some features from Oppo and their Open and implement in their phone, that'd be cool and add more value.

The thickness seems to be most exciting.

Anonymous, 08 Mar 2024He read it like most people that don't have issues wit... moreInternet in a nutshell

I have issues with different things phones do stupid (which was better before) so I know what you mean.

And I mean it is not that hard to imagine why some people have issues with UD scanners, like I said I don't have any issues with any type of FP scanner, but my sister does have issues with UD ones.

But also with optical ones, I remember the hassle when she got a new passport and they switched to a new system of collecting fingerprints, they started using optical ones and guess what happened, same thing as most phones use UD nowadays.

Btw they switched back to paper for a while, then went to capacitive ones later one, those that do work for here.

I don't know the exact reason why some have issues, but I assume there are multiple ones.

Capacitive ones use small capacitors so they detect the differences in a fingerprint more accurately.

Optical one is technically a camera, and I think tge fact there is glass in between causes the issues for some.

Ultra sonic ones use waves, I did have some issues with those when I had dry hands but that seems to be common knowledge, anyhow they are better and more safe than optical ones, but are more sensitive to external differences that could interfere (dry hands being one issue, but the list is probably longer)

I remember having a ton of interesting discussions about the UD scanner topic on a Discord group few years ago, when UD scanners on phones were a novelty.

We all concluded that each tech has it's issues that could be solved, but companies will go only as far they need to, no beyond that and thus some people will have issues.

Btw the capacitive scanner is more expensive to use, I say that because you mentioned in a different comment that they could go back to that.

They went UD because it is cheaper in the end, so like with most changes in smartphones, it was again a money bound decision.

"then the issue could be caused by you"

The usual answer, it's not the tech but the user.

I work in the IT, and yes often the user is a issue, but my boss would really get angry at people on the workflow that started to always blame the user.

Oh well, I got the exact answer I expected.

What you said about the internet is how internet does work, my sister has issues with UD scanners and when she asked for help online, she ended up same way you mentioned.

I mean, the guy commented on commented back and got positive emoticons for it, guy didn't even properly read your wall of text.

But that is how the Internet does work, your issues will never be solved due to that.

Anonymous, 08 Mar 2024I don't specifically ask for a side mounted one, just ... moreSo I don't get it. You've had issues with the under display fingerprint scanners on one or two phones or on more of them? If you only had such issues on one or two phones, then yeah, you were unlucky enough to be some of the rare people that get major issues with UD fingerprint scanners. But if you've had this issues on multiple phones and from different companies, then the issue could be caused by you, somehow.

I for one, had many issues with side-mounted fingerprint scanners. Like when I would put the phone in my pocket, my thumb would slightly rub against the fingerprint scanner and the phone would open up and stay open in my pocket. And while I would walk, the phone's screen would constantly get moved around by my thigh, opening random apps and I kid you not, dialing random numbers on the phone app. And me, along with many other people that I've known that used side-mounted fingerprint scanners had similar problems. Other issues include the fingerprint simply not reading my fingerprint because of how small the side-mounted fingerprint scanner's sensors are, or even opening the phone when I would put on another finger, which I didn't register the fingerprint of.

So yeah, I guess it depends on the person, as well as the phone. I've heard about more people complaining about side-mounted fingerprint scanners than about the UD ones, so I'd still say they're more reliable in most cases
