mooox, 13 Mar 2024A full magazine page at 300dpi is only about 8.5MP.
24MP ... moreA magazine page has never had good image quality to begin with. The way magazines are printed means you don't need a lot of Megapixels to make a good result. It's like playing music through Bluetooth - most people probably won't hear any difference between Spotify and Tidal even if it can be heard (especially when playing hi-res on Tidal). If you print a photo taken with a smartphone or a Pro DSLR on a magazine page, many people won't tell the difference. Magazines are a low-quality medium.
I remember Nikon D1 with 2.74 Megapixels could make a single-page with excellent quality. When D1x with 5 Megapixel came, it could do a double-page spread with excellent quality.
(with a skilled photographer and pro-grade lens)
Many things like colour fidelity, tonality, natural rendering etc. These will all suffer on a phone. But if we're talking detail only, and you have just your phone and you're standing in front of a stunning landscape scene. Would you still shoot at 12MP if you had a phone with 24MP or 50MP mode? The lens of flagship smartphones have great contrast/resolution/sharpness, especially considering most of them shoot wide open (not stopped down). Only in 200MP there will be noticable softness in corners from my S23 Ultra. On 12MP you can't see it and barely at 50MP either.

Still can take RAW for 48MP. 24MP thanks to "pixel-binning to create lower-resolution images with better dynamic range and sharpening". You called yourself a photographer? sad fake guy.

dexton, 12 Mar 2024if you want to print images, 24MP will be noticably better ... moreA full magazine page at 300dpi is only about 8.5MP.
24MP - how big do you want to print? 2ft x 3ft images?
Anyway if you were to print that big, you'll need at least a full frame sensor. LOL a phone image will look terrible, you'll see all the artifacts of a small sensor.

dexton, 12 Mar 2024if you want to print images, 24MP will be noticably better ... moreYes, no one said that 24Ultra is the "photo flagship" of 2024. It's actually just good and has A LOT of compromises 😐. 📲 Oppo's and Xiaomi's are much MUCH better 😀.

If you start out with a 12MP image and do some cropping, it ain't going to print well.
However I think Samsung 50MP mode offers good details, although often strange colour cast (reddish). The 50MP images looked better on my S22 than my new S23 Ultra so they changed something with their processing. It's a shame that all the different modes have a different look. Also Expert RAW will have a different look. You're never going to know what kind of a image you'll get from these recent Samsungs.
To be honest when I saw photos from Oppo Find X7 Ultra they looked very natural and all cameras seemed well matched because of Sony-only sensors. If Oppo flagship comes to Europe next year, I might try them. Samsung photos are a mess now, S23 Ultra looks amazing on paper but my Note 10 took nicer looking photos. I just need to bring out any of my Sony cameras and snap some photos to see how a camera should perform.

Shouldn't they be more concerned about bringing the new algorithms to the previous generation instead of boasting about the superiority of the new one? Scamsung...

What a big disappointment. It's going to be worse at 10x+ which was the one selling point of the S21..23 Ultras, being the only phone in the market to feature decently sharp 10x and the only "unique" reason to put up with Samsung, their asinine curved screen and their bogus S apps bloat.

The end result is disappointing. The images are often blurry or full of noise. The AI often ruins the image after I have taken it

I have the S24U, at 50mpx the JPGs in PRO mode has correct sharpen but lacks details in shadows and brightness compared to normal mode that has excessive sharpen (optimization at minimum).
RAW is bad in PRO mode because the lack of details in shadows and brightness, looks like they are packing JPGs inside the DNGs and Expert RAW is the worst of the worst, unusable.
Samsung is the king of marketing, but in real life you get the issues like me.
