Shamrock Sean, 08 Mar 2024I don't understand why Samsung has to use a separate c... moreSome prefer the "normal" pro mode which is in the normal photo app. The pro mode without without "multi-image magic" or HDR. With Expert RAW you get "multi-image magic" and also HDR if you like. The most "true" mode is still the regular Pro mode in the normal photo app. Just a single exposure without any weirdness going on.
Since I shoot in normal (Auto) photo mode like 99% of the time, I see no problems to start another app for manual photography. I have an Expert RAW shortcut in the edge panel so I can start it even when in normal photo app.
Similarly you can download the Samsung app called "Camera assistant" where you can turn off Auto HDR, set "picture softening" (basically level of sharpness), distortion correction ON/OFF, Automatic lens change ON/OFF, shutter button behavior and a few other settings. For me "Camera assistant" is a game changer and I've seen no other manufacturers offering this level of costumization of photography (except maybe Sony).
Samsung camera experience isn't without problems but at least they offer further apps for those who like to experiment for better photos.

I don't understand why Samsung has to use a separate camera app to 'improve' image quality. Expert RAW what's the point?? Why couldn't they already bake that so called better image quality into the existing camera app?? And to get faster shutter we have to downgrade image quality?? It's uttter rubbish. And why also separate apps for all that customization with Good Lock?? Why not already put it in the phones software?? Dumb

Sadly, to get something useful out of the S Ultra line, you always need to have some editing skills and time to do so. Unlike a Pixel or an iPhone, where things are more reliable you rarely need to edit anything.

Can't they at least add the 24MP option in the photo resolution options in the normal app without having to dive into Expert RAW even if it isn't selected by default like on the iPhones?

But what I see on the review images on here is more of the same. Over sharpened, saturated and noisy images. Samsung processing is awful

GregLu, 08 Mar 2024If they need to put an infographic to sell ... That's ... more99.9% has no clue what camera or lens shifting is. It's a pretty brilliant feature to fix perspective distortions when you have to take a photo of something being "too close".
If you don't provide info about the advanced features in a 1,500 buck camera phone, you're doing it wrong.

AI ISP, AI Fusion, AI this, AI that, AI everything, Where is my 1'' sensor?!
The 5x telephoto's sensor is twice the size of last year's, but to get 10x it would have to crop twice anyway, so yeah...

Some ports are buggy af, some don't start on a few phones whereas others are so good that you'll think you're taking photos from a DSLR. Noise isn't reduced aggressively and it isn't sharpened aggressively so you get nice, filmic photos like from the RAW photos in Pro mode in the Samsung app. If these Raw photos had HDR data I'd have shot in RAW all the time but Samsung's ExpertRAW is somehow worse than their normal camera app.

Their cameras have great hardware, but they are complete potatoes when it comes to photographing humans and anything moving. 200MP Sensor is far too large to do multi frame shots. Silliness. Everyone still looks like a wax dummy.
