Apple specifies grace period for third-party app store access when leaving the EU

08 March 2024
Your alternative app stores and updates will be available for up to 30 days when you leave the EU.

I thought the grace period should be a year instead...

I have an iPad and an iPhone 13 mini (just using it for app dev, my main phone is Android) myself yet I didn't even mention them at first because the main issue is about sideloading and even if you only have an Android you can easily participate in this discussion without being discriminated.

Comparing the two platform (Android and iOS) is inevitable and sideloading is a universal topic between the two, I really hope that you have the capacity to understand that.

I Just Read, 09 Mar 2024Compare this absolutely no idea whatsoever jump on the band... more"The EU doesn't have jurisdiction for the world."

Yes. So does not USA, and yet the corporations have no problem forcing US ruling on the rest of the world .

" Want freedom of sideloading? Use Android. Why is this a problem?""
That is not the point, is it? It is about anti competitive behaviour - which is against the law. Even in US. Its up to regulators how they interpret the law. If two developers (one apple and other someone else) make similar products, and one (not apple) is FORCED to pay 30% of profits to apple - his direct competition, this is obviously shady business. This not about being anti apple, thig goes for any company.

Does this behaviour also relates to china? If european citizen with eu rom goes to US for more than 30 days, he loses access to his services - in this case alternative app store. If chinese national goes to US for more than 30 days, is he going to lose access to his services? For example Douyin? Or any chinese app really. If not why? Because china rules all over the world?

So the right thing is to bully your customers any time you get the opportunity? What is the reasonable reason why eu citizens would lose access to their services after exactly 30 days? Because apple is so good an fair?

DroidBoye, 09 Mar 2024It's because sideloading is very normal with Android. ... moreI'm here because I used 2 phone as my daily drive. One pocket carrying an iPhone and the other carrying Android phone. My Android phone have F-droid install and I have whoBird install together with other bunch of apps. Did you see me making noise?? Vet cha didn't see that coming right? 🙄

Compare this absolutely no idea whatsoever jump on the bandwagon populist view

"and the award for the most absurdly anti-consumer company goes to"
To this (notice the above has no rationale no explanation or counter proposal, puerile)

"How so? This is Apple implementing what the EU wanted. The EU doesn't have jurisdiction for the world. In fact, what the EU required might be against the regulations of some countries where certain apps might be banned. So Apple is simply following the rules of different countries around the world.

Want freedom of sideloading? Use Android. Why is this a problem?"

I'm no fan of Apples so does so Potato4k post demolished the nonsense text. (l) Just Read the title

'Apple specifies grace period for third-party app store access when leaving the EU'

            My example
The UK has left the EU so in order to use their allowance, some network have reciprocal EU arrangements where you pay a daily fee on top

If memory serves prior to this when the UK was fully in there was even a grace period for travel within Europe to certain non EU Members your allowance could be used within the EU

What Apple is doing isn't unfair in the slightest possibly the first and only time.
Some Apps will be totally new to Apple App Store some may well be the by the same developer who benefits from not paying the 30% an EU duplication.

Additionally I like many have only installed free Apps.

There are many non cellular examples where this grace period applies or you can see the thought behind it.

Contents insurance leaving your house unoccupied for 30 days

Warranties a lbeit way longer acknowledge some manufacturers defects won't appear on day 1, to differentiate it from Guarantee where no defect it just "breaks"

Potato4k has hit the nail on the head. The EU Jurisdiction only extends the boundaries of Europe. Apple has not made a mean spirited T&C, if you leave the EU for 30 day. THE BENEFITS STOP

The most apt line is from the film Central Intelligence Bob Stone
" Are you in or are you out?"

When you return to the EU you're in as before you were out.

This is the first post ever where it can't be denied it supports Apple, Yes because it isn't wrong
All the nay sayers seem to be in a mythical EU Embassy once they set foot outside the EU, or somehow they lose their rights. The app is still on the phone.

To finish @ 03/08/ 2024 Tik Tok may be facing a outright ban in the US if new laws are enacted in the US. As not an enacted law I couldn't use it as a prime example.

First of all, why? Why they have the need to bully europeans abroad? Why dont you just leave them alone? Where is this coming from?

Second. Does the same rules also apply for chinese abroad, that they can not have acess to chinese services abroad after 30 days? Or just for europeans? Is this racism? 😁

Anonymous, 09 Mar 2024VPN is only one of many ways to know the phone location. ... moreNot only. I remember there was a murder case in Greece were a man killed his wife and their young daughter and staged the crime scene in a way to make it look like thieves broke into their house and killed them.
Authoritied found him guilty by analyzing his iPhone's data. They were able to see were he was and on which floor inside his house he was moving and at what time by looking at the movement tracking data.

Maybe it is also possible with other phones but concerning iPhones it is possible for sure.
