Anonymous, 10 Apr 2024Do you really keep a phone more than 2 years ? Yes, be a good consumer and spend hundreds every year on a new phone. Phones should not be designed to last more than 2 years anyway because that's socialism.

if the 5 vi has more that 2 years of updates, this will be my next phone. 5 v had disappointing screen and 2 years of updates. if the 5vi has at least 4 years, I'm in for a change. 2 years is not good enough these days as some companies provide 7 years.

I'm more interested in what they do by way of updates during the life of a version of Android. I owned a Xperia 1 V from launch in June 2023, but changed to a S24U in January. Reason? Poor updates - basics not working, like screen refresh rates and v poor Bluetooth connectivity, particularly after Android 14.

I've been a fan of Sony phones, but if they are not going to put the effort into the basic software that runs them, then I'm afraid they are not for me.

Sony? That is so cool"

moosh, 18 Mar 2024it's very sad that sony has changed the resolution fro... moreI am very much sorry but the profanity in what you are saying is really beyond me. The XZ Premium and the XZ2 Premium had a screen ratio of 16:9 with a screen size of 5.8 inches, the screen was beautiful I agree, at the same time had all the drawbacks, battery life was not as good, the screen was only 60hz, and it was never that bright to be honest, I know this cause I've had every generation of Sony phones starting from the original Z. The Xperia 1V has a screen size of 6.5" with the aspect ratio being 21:9 NOT 16:9, be cause the phone is longer and not as wide as the XZ Premium, hence the 1644 x 3840 pixels instead of the usual 3840 x 2160. If they had done 3840 x 2160 on an Xperia 1 V it would be super weird because the image would constantly be adjusted cause the phone is taller and slimmer rather than it's great great great grandfather. As a person who had used all of the 1 lineup, I would say the Xperia 1 was not the best phone, but it was the first with the 21:9 aspect ratio, and a triple camera. Judging by the fact that right now I have a 1 V and a 1 iii I would say the improvements over the XZ Premium is: Brighter display that is also more colorful, louder speakers, better battery life, not as heavy as the XZ Premium, awesome camera, I would say the best that Sony had done in the phone yet, great overall design and usability, and you would be wrong for not getting the 1 V, skip the 1 iii because of the overheating issues the Snapdragon 1 Gen 1 was a very hot processor, and if you try to shoot a video on 1 iii it will overheat and cause the camera to shut down after about 7-10 minutes

Let's be honest, Samsung has been doing the 8GB of ram since S20, and even in the S24 and S24+ you still get 8gb of ram, the only phone that has more being the S24 ultra that has 12 GB of ram. With the fact that Sony does not tamper with stock android experience, unlike Samsung with over 20 applications that are in the phone and the Samsung UI that consumes RAM like crazy, on an 8gb Samsung smartphone you get only about 3.2 GB usable, I have a Sony Xperia 1 ii that has 8gb of ram, about 3.8 gb is always used by the system leaving me with 4-4.2 GB of ram that I can use. Being that I am an advanced user, I never have an issue on the phone to be honest, even while heavily multitasking. And there are still millions of people using S20 or higher who have 8 gb of ram and are perfectly fine with it, so having 12-16 gb of ram on the phone is very debatable, I don't really see that much difference on my Sony Xperia 1 V (yes I got 2 phones) as my ram usage very rarely spike above 8GB, currently sitting on 6.52gb of ram usage. The main part of the phone is the CPU, if it's fast enough, unless you have 6gb of said Ram you will not see an issue

it's very sad that sony has changed the resolution from full 4k (3840x2160) to a subset of that (3840x1644) in their flagships. they should have left the 2160 which can play 1644 as is, without scaling. the 21:9 versions had downcast the fabulous full 4k in older xz premium devices.
sony always makes a great phone, then several generations of lousy ones (which include the xperia 1.)
you interact with a screen! the higher the resolution - the clearer and sharper image you see. sony did not climb back up to where it used to be, regarding the phone screen resolution, since 2018.
just sad. if by may and mark vi they would not go back to full 2160, i would have to ditch sony in the coming months, when my xperia xz premium will be just too old.
                        :(

How many years of security update for the Xperia phones 2023 and 2024 ? and I hope Sony keep the headphone jack on the 10 VI.

Wish Sony would leak the release date so I can plan accordingly.
