I think there should be both and then we can see which sells best.
I am die hard round smartwatch fan, i want watch to look like a watch instead of something tech gadget.

The Galaxy Gear S with the curved screen has been the most classy-looking rectangular smartwatch ever made.
Samsung just needs to bring out a 2025 Edition and it should be selling like hot cakes.

Release restangular watch but keep round watch as well. Why not have both? It is personal choice but for me round one looks cooler. Just bought my first real smartwatch. Galaxy Watch 6 Classic 47mm size black color. Picked one without LTE as thought it won't be necessary for me. Cool and premium watch overall. Heavy and strong.

I totally miss the first-generation Galaxy Gear, especially the built-in 2MP camera. Samsung can easily resurrect it with modern hardware, especially with the wide adoption of QR code mobile payment on most retail and F&B premises nowadays.

About damn time Samsung, we've been oggling at the now-vintage Samsung Gear S that had devs and modders support for ages now doing every trick in the book to it from modding the hell out of Tizen to getting Android fully working on it turning it into a mini smartphone, plus there's the design.
Yes, go ahead and switch to rectangular which will allow for more info displayed at a glance, larger battery life and please, mind the bezels, aliexpress knock-offs managed to reduce the bezels down to the milimeter and offer amoled screens and an overall quality product so you can do so too, just don't pull a Samsung Fit3 on us and have God-Knows-Who produce your hardware and slap your logo on it with some rtos non-customizable OS on it.

To be fair, though, most people don't buy smartwatches at all. A decade later they still haven't made a compelling argument for their existence. Everyone's still struggling with battery life and form factors.

Just a theory, but Samsung probably would do something like this
Galaxy Watch - Rectangular
Galaxy Watch Pro - Rectangular
Galaxy Watch Classic - Round with rotating bezel (since you cant have "Classic" with a rectangular design, right?)
and based on the Watch 5 was released with only the Pro, while the Watch 6 was release with only the Classic, maybe the Watch 7 will release with the Pro again, but this time it's a rectangular design. So the whole Watch 7 series will be released with a square design, while the Watch 8 series will be rectangular for the regular and round for the Classic.
