So question to Tim Cook.
Is this fragmentation or what?
If Android is updated everyone gets all features.

Anonymous, 11 Jun 2013Care to list all of the Samsung smartphones that didnt get ... moreCare to list all the Apple Devices older than 2 years, which actually get the full iOS7 package? For Apple it is easy to say they update all their phones, if it only increases the number of the version in the menu. Android is made by Google and the phones are not, there are actually different Android Roms for one device, which has the same Android Version number, but different features onboard and fixes and so on. Update on Android phones doesnt always mean, increased Version number, because on Android the ROM counts, not the Version number. Based on the Rom on iOS, you get not even a half of the iOS7 Rom on a iPhone 4S compared to iPhone5.

This is exactly why Apples update policy is only marketing. People always say they get all updates for years, but this table actually proves them wrong. If Android gets an update, you get the whole package. Android 4.1 update on any 4.1 phone, will have all of the 4.1 goodies. You bought a iPad 3 last year and still you dont get the whole of iOS7.

And the other funny part is, that people say an update is an update. It is not like the manufacturer of Android phones do not update their phones, even if they say no 4.2 for your phone, they do not increase the number of your version, but they add some features, fix some bugs and so on. Just like on the Galaxy S1, it did not get 4.0, but it got an 2.3 update with the most important features. I dont see any difference in what Sammy did there with the S1 and what Apple does with the 4S for example. Increased Version number means absolutely nothing, if you simply got some camera filters, like they couldnt add those filters in iOS6^^ I believe you get, what I am trying to say. Apple increases version numbers and calls it an update, others update their phones, without the newer Android Version number, because they know the full package could create some problems. Not every iOS7 feature on your phone? Then it actually aint a real iOS7 phone. Super update policy and still people fall for it. You want real updates with the whole package for a relatively long time, get a Nexus Phone or a phone with Vanilla Droid onboard, that at least is the real thing and not such a placebo.

Still, the three year old iPhone 4 is getting an official update. WP and Android owners get up to two years. An update is an update.
