The overall design will still be clearly identifiable.

sony knows the only reason people buy Xperia is because of outstanding feel in hand because of 21:9 aspect ratio, dropping it to 19:9 means that standing with other mobile brands which sony will never do because at 19:9 there are other better options than Sony.

so either sony stick to Thier loyal user base of Xperia design or they will be forgotten like LG , choice is yours sony.

(i don't want them to destroy such a beautiful design phone because other phone brands are doing so)

The Xperia series has a long phone, not because it sticks to 21:9, but because it doesn't employ a punch hole camera.
The 21:9 ratio is the traditional underlying ratio, and the 19.5:9 ratio is the deformed ratio by the smartphone form factor. Sony knew it, but it succumbed to the trend led by other brands.
I was looking forward to adopting a front punchhole camera for a big change in design last year, but it didn't happen. There are no punchholes at the 19.5:9 ratio this year, so I'll be waiting to use the Galaxy again.
The advantage of Xperia is that it has a historic display ratio of 21:9, a 4k screen, a 3.5 pi audio terminal, and micro sd card expansion, which will be advantageous in terms of brand philosophy and differences from other brands.

Bravosixgoingdark, 22 Mar 2024This is peek fanboy delusion right here I've been a so... morewell... i guess you have a balance pov right there...
i did not experience annoying bugs...
one "bug" i experienced with my 1ii was with the aod... but i am the one being "weird" playing peek-a-boo with the sensors... but i have reasons - checking its reliability... fortunately, they fixed it on android 11 update and still as reliable on android 12... (58.2.a.7.93)
and maybe, they want me to stop playing with it, 1 v has different behavior - they increased delay of response, so i wont peek-a-boo anymore...
        ...
i like what they did with 1v, with some minor complaint - the lack of notification led... i still look at the top of the phone for notifs, aod is good, but still used to rely on notif led...
and yes, they have to improve their software support...
i still get google play system update, and i upgrade after 2-3 years... but their hardware's integrity is too good to just forget about it after 3 years...
i am okay with security patches, tbh, but i think they will have more buyers and people buying used ones can enjoy using xperia more with longer updates...

NOK6600, 21 Mar 2024Sony state now in niche market .they do not produced mass v... moreThis is peek fanboy delusion right here I've been a sony user for quite some time now (currently using a 1 iii) the problems I'd say they need to fix are:

1: bare bone software that's full of weird bugs that too with a criminally short update cycle

2: display brightness is too low although the color accuracy is good maybe best

3: basic mode in camera is bad it needs to be better specially at exposure and color ( the colors are NOT life like they are washed out)

4: removing 4k is fine but 19.5:9 is too wide. 21:9 looked way more classy and elegant even with those bezels.

5: the overheating ( it's better with the V series but needs improvement)

6: Fix the goddamn fingerprint sensor that keeps failing for no reason whatsoever

Most of Sony's issues are just software issues which are easily fixable I hope they do it in time or the only ones that's going to be buying are those handful of delusional fanboys paying $13/1500 for a phone that can't even beat a phone half that price

Edit: they seem to be fixing the software and camera this year as rumors say hope that's true

as a sony fan who loved and have their 4k display on z5 premium (and eventually, xz premium, 1ii, 1v)...
and also loved their 21:9 form (since xperia og, that made me buy 1ii, then 1v)...
this is a sad news for me...
but still hopes it comes back when it is time for me to upgrade...
maybe they wanted to cater for the meizu fans in china (if there are any), since meizu is sony's official partner for mobile services, thus apps and localization services are in xperias in china out of the box...
looking forward for the next lineups of xperias...

Sony phone is expensive and also truly specual and rare . Those keep bashing sony Xperia due to minor stupid thing ,at same time they never hold Xperia in their hand . They never know what is the true high quality product and Sony Xperia LCD since Z2 series will beat any Amoled if compared 1-1. There are tonne youtube video show Xperias display beat any other smartphoje display including the galaxy junk amoled fake colour display. 99% people saying sony is overpriced ,never owned the Xperias in their live.

BlahBlah, 19 Mar 2024Bro... I still have OnePlus 7 Pro with Snapdragon 855 which... moreWell nice speech boomer but once again you can update your software but not hardware. Even if your phone will have 5-10 100 years of updates hardware wont keep that long.
3-4 updates many phones have that almost every.
90% clever enough people buy phones for like 2 years and then swap it for something new while old device have still decent value.
Most people at least here in Europe buys ona contract which last 2 years and then they try to sell their old device.
People not buying on contract mostly buys what they can afford ususally phones under 200.
Not many people carry in pockets enough for Iphone 15 pro max with 1TB storage.
JIust my 2 cents for a boomer.

Sony needs to change strategy in addition to ditching the long ratio.
                          1. Need to keep 3.5mm and sd card but sell at US retail phone stores like T-Mobile. Buying unlocked phones from abroad to use in USA always has limited functionality these days.
                          2. Need more OS updates. Sony has always been bad at this and Samsung has 3 android updates and many years of security updates.
                          3. Lower the price. Who will pay more than a Galaxy S for a Sony? I feel most pros will go iPhone not Sony.

Sony should return to the US and show themselves as a more featured higher quality competitor to Samsung Galaxy S series.
It doesn't even make sense how Xperia is still alive

Are you trying to tell me Galaxy A14 or A15 is better then my 5 years old phone?

Bro... If you like to buy a new phone every couple of months just do it, but let others choose what they want. It seems you can't accept that.

And btw... Why do use that Diablo Immortal argument in every damn debate when we talking about longer updates. You don't need them, we get it. Now it's up to you to accept there are a LOT of people wanting a longer support then usual 2 years what we had for years. We don't need 7 years like Google has promissed ffs...but 3 or 4 would be nice as that's the standard.

Sony needs at least 3 years of Android updates + 1 on security patches to be competitive. That's just one of many standards which Sony unfortunatelly didn't follow.

I had a great experience with Xperia Z3 Compact. I would really like if they come back to a more compact models, but that wont happen because we apparently don't need a pc or gaming consoles any more. We just need a phone with gigantic screen around 7 inches which can do everything, right?

Well.... I guess my time has passed and i'm a boomer because i like to play games on pc and not phones.. I just feel bad knowing i am killing the phone with prolonged gaming sessions because heat.

It was an unwise idea to include the 4K screen and 'CinemaWide' 21:9 aspect ratio in the first place. Most phone users do not care. Listening to just a handful of vocal hardcore Xperia fans (and there aren't too many of them in recent years) will always give you a misrepresentation of reality.

Amazing it took Sony so many years to realize this.
