The overall design will still be clearly identifiable.

Good, nobody need 4k display

Every brand seems to be going the generic route this year, or they fail/quit completely like Cat (and potentially Meizu). With each year we are getting a couple steps closer to an Apple - Samsung duopoly. What a shame.

I agree that 4K is useless on displays this small, and their tall aspect ratio might be gimmicky, but these features at least made Sony unique, now it's just the SD card slot and headphone jack that stand out.

Hopefully this rumor ends up being false.

Thank God!! give up high prices too...

Anonymous, 15 Mar 2024I don't mind the 21:9, but I understand. Dropping o... moreAnd also in implementing LTPO tech, which is not easy on 4K panels.

First removing telephoto on 5 V and now 4K display on 1 VI, next year maybe microSD and headphone jack.

Nooo.... I love its 21:9 ratio and Xperia 1 VI could be my next phone. But they will drop one thing I love about Xperia.

I've stuck with the Xperia handsets for years now so loosing the 4K I can manage but I'll be sad to see the tall aspect ratio go. That's the one main thing I actually loved about the all the Xperias I've used since the Xperia 1. But going forward, I'm actually looking forward to what would be the next version of the Xperia PRO-I which I am currently using.

Anonymous, 15 Mar 2024I don't mind the 21:9, but I understand. Dropping o... moreIt still looks great at 1440p, but yes the battery is drained no matter what, those 4K displays were never about usefulness or power efficiency, but thw prestige of having one.

I do hope they keep the rest what makes the phone unique like microsd slot and 3.5mm, I would miss 21:9 but for daily use it doesn't add that much, surprising but I have a 1 IV.

So first Asus and now Sony make dramatic changes, kinda sad to see this considering lack of alternatives in what made these two brands more special smartphone wise.

Giving up some qualities (4k display) without giving up absurdly high prices. Nothing new here.

On the other hand, the tall aspect ratio is an iconic detail in Sony phones and what differs them from other brands.

Whoever came with that idea at the Sony Xperia headquarters should get promoted to customer

                      I don't mind the 21:9, but I understand.

Dropping of 4K display means nothing of value has been lost, little to no one actually know that these phones run at 1440p, 4K is only used for 4K media and when using the camera in the Sony app.

And this was always the case, every single Sony phone didn't ran for the most part natively at 4K.

It would help a ton with the battery, even at non native res the pixels are still there wasting energy.

And give up all clients as well.

I feel that's what makes the Xperia 1, Xperia 1.
Otherwise I've always thought it was a basically mild upgrade over the 5
