PlayStation 5 Pro rumored to beef up GPU and ray tracing, bring AI acceleration

18 March 2024
"AI" as in the generative models that are all the rage these days, not NPC AI. But devs can use it to make NPCs more lifelike.

Akinaro, 18 Mar 2024Dont compare PC hardware and Console hardware like that as ... moreI know, the Digital Foundry did an awesome vid where they PS4 was able get 30-60% more performance than the PC equivalent specs because of optimization done by devs. 2 things allow this, the hardware's interconnectedness and how easy it is for devs to focus on one console and then optimize for it. For example PCs have hundreds of thousands of different combinations so yeah you gotta generalize stuff.

What I am complaining about is how devs have gotten lazy nowadays and use FSR/upscaling all the time to hit their target. Performance modes sometimes use 900p footage and upscale to 1440p, Quality mode sometimes uses 1080p footage to upscale to 4K and there are some instances where the native resolution goes even lower. That's my problem. Wish there was a way to disable upscaling and get native presentation, we still haven't gotten DLSS levels of upscaling from FSR. Hope Sony and AMD can do it one day tho!

jiyen235, 18 Mar 2024GPU is supposed to be on par with the 7700 XT, pathetic imo... moreDont compare PC hardware and Console hardware like that as consoles and games for them work in tad different way, as is all about optimization for specific hardware and how system distribute it. Just look how Old console games looked even if they where not that powerful, they still managed to be almost equal in visual to most PC games at the same time

Mills, 18 Mar 2024If you just want to play games only, get a gaming console. ... morei want a console for the family experience+some games that i cant buy on pc
but i'll use both anyway (and most people prolly should too)

If you just want to play games only, get a gaming console. If not, get a gaming PC. Not a prebuilt tho.

They'll give you a RX 580 and 12400F for 950 USD when you can get a 12600KF and a 7600 for the same price. Building it is cheaper but will take a lot of patience and time.

IpsDisplay, 18 Mar 2024Who cares 😒 Just have a massive library of fun games to ... moreAgreed, and this has got to one of the worst generations for that.

Not really sure there is any need for this thing, especially at the price it’s likely going to cost.

GPU is supposed to be on par with the 7700 XT, pathetic imo, should've been on par with the 7800 XT, if not then at least something in between. I feared this would happen but it sucks still. 4K 120 is still in the distant future and devs are still going to go down to 720p levels of native res and upscaling to 1440p or something.
