Report: Apple's A18 Pro to bring on-device AI, A18 to miss out

25 March 2024
The iPhone 16 Pros are getting on-device AI, the vanillas are not.

Krisbenea, 25 Mar 2024so what the use of npu on the a17? Apple simply rebranded their machine learning as "AI." And I have a feeling this will be used as a software lock for future ML/"AI" features being Pro features only.
The question is, will Apple also software lock features that are actually using Google gemini/cloud. I have a feeling they will.

potato4k, 25 Mar 2024Well, it depends on what kind of "AI" stuff that ... more"AI-powered camera" like fake moon is probably already on their agenda, who knows.

Krisbenea, 25 Mar 2024so what the use of npu on the a17? Pretty much nothing. If we disable the manure filter on this story, the "on device AI" is access to Google's Gemini. This is the Siri scam all over again.

Apple never gonna beat the ALLEGATIONS. US DOJ and the EU will absolutely clown on them for segmenting their software like this

Seems like a push to buy the Pro and Pro Max models. Just a few more years and they'll corral their users into those lineups.

TBH, if the non Pro get the camera features of the Pro I dont mind getting the Plus instead of the Pro.

so what the use of npu on the a17?

There is no non-pro A18. Just the A18 Pro for the iPhone 16 Pro (and Pro Max)

The regular iPhone 16 will stick with last year's A17 Pro.

Well, it depends on what kind of "AI" stuff that the on-device one can do more/better.

On Android, it's shown that many of the AI stuff are still being done on the cloud. If that's the case, then the "non AI" SoCs won't be missing much. Considering the rumor is that Apple going to use Google's gemini anyway, Apple will need to push the reality distortion field further to convince me on the A18 Pro.

Okay, so the vanilla models will be 60hz, no telephoto, no on-device AI, starting at $799...alright ! 😃

I just get the normal A18 over the Pro. AI here AI there. This AI this is getting overboard 🤦🏻‍♂️

What is that frozen over electronic apple on a stove💀

Another way of separating the Pro and non-pro models.

And another AI-generated pic that adds nothing to the article.

now apple can spy on you silently using their on device AI !!!

                                      Ahh the usual move aight

                                        Ai here Ai there
The most overrated term of 2024 already
