As long the island remains free, C and US can ban each other

Cannot comment on those chip alternatives, but Windows is generally not recommended anyway for government related computing as it’s a higher risk as an attack vector. Many secure environments are Linux based anyway. So I can agree on banning of Windows.

The ones that will be heavily affected are the OEMs like Lenovo. Banning Windows is easy as they can simply ship the computers blank or with Linux. But banning intel and AMD means Lenovo have to create new models specifically for Chinese government use.

How about another Apple devices other than iPhone?

No, I'm seriously asking. I've only heard of iPhones being banned from the Chinese government office, but never Macs, iPads, or Apple Watches.

Reminder that it only concern state computers, it doesn't concern most of the population and should have a negligible impact on the sales of Intel/AMD/Windows in China.
However, it won't stop the US of A from crying and act like it was the end of the world for them.

Mills, 25 Mar 2024If US gonna ban Chinese companies, China gonna ban American... moreBruh, Google, Meta, Wikipedia, etc. have all been banned in China for years. They're not going to ban US consumer hardware unless their domestic products can at least pretend to be competitive (which would not happen for many years, if ever).

So are they going to throw away their computers? its a duopoly, but intel is crap so I cant blame them

If US gonna ban Chinese companies, China gonna ban American companies. Thing is, FTC, FCC and other wussy federal divisions will come crying to China. Intel and AMD will probably not care if they're making bank from gamers and workstationers.

Via's x86 license was bought by Chinese firm Zhaoxin, so it's not completely impossible. Plus ARM exists. Still, I want to see how they're going to educate their massive bureaucracy on how to use Linux instead of Windows, LibreOffice/OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Word/Excel, etc. Best of luck to the IT teams behind the Great Firewall, it will only hold in the edge of support tickets.

Seems the US want to have their cake and eat it. If you ban Chinese companies, then expect retaliation. To this day I will never forgive the US for banning Huawei!
