We asked Samsung why it gave its flagships 7 years of support

The maker believes the added value is worth the overhead.

My point is all andorid phones recieved far fewer updates than what they do now.

I have an LG Stylo 4 of the same age as your J4+ and that thing is not slow (only just a bit) and still perfectly useable. People will always find a reason to whine

People are arguing about the phone might get utterly slow after that 7 years of usage. Okay then, ONLY updates aren't the main factor here. We get 7 yrs of updates, we use it, so we might see it slowing down. If we count from the 'usage years' factor and not just updates, why does my Galaxy J4+ made by the same company Samsung that I bought for only 80$ 6 years ago still didn't slow down even a little bit than it was (yeah it wasn't "very fast" when I bought it) at first?

                - Samsung does the same after a few years after sweeping the initial mocking under the rug

If you want to upgrade to a new phone every 4-5 years you can still do it. Non-power users that dont really care now have the option to keep their phones far longer without undertaking security risks.

Besides one could argue the S10 or even S9 would still be perfectly usable for everyday taasks today. Im sure more would use them if they were actually supported

Why 7 years? Cause google did it.

So either Samsung's assistance scammed me - but I have no way to prove it - or the problem does lie within the software. Seeing as I have a friend who is still using the S10e and complaining about the same issue, I'm inclined to believe it's a software problem.

Your phone works best with the software it is shipped. 4 years of upgrades and 5 years of updates are enough for any device or (if longer) the newer upgrades start straining the ageing hardware.

YUKI93, 02 Apr 2024Remember when Apple artificially slows down older iPhones w... moreLOL. Instead of doing silly thing like this, you should attack your master Sony for not providing adequate software support.

Remember when Apple artificially slows down older iPhones when running newer version of iOS? I bet my money that Samsung would do the same here. That's why three to four OS update is still more than enough to average consumers. Heck, they won't even care in the slightest about it in the first place. It's always been the case with my parent's phone as I'm the only one who initiate all the new updates. They can't even tell it's the new OS or UI version.

This is good news. They should really try to commit to this further by not bloating their OS to the point where it gets laggy on today's flagship chipsets in 2032.
