They are basically financing the build with that funding. It's an amazing offer for TSMC. US Govt know what they are doing. This time they are thinking 5-10 years down the road

If you have a GED, you can qualify for some respectable jobs but I digress, the USA is a wretched place that everyone sees as the holy grail of freedom. Trying to stomp out China in the AI race, not banning the gun problem here and we're (i mean they're) in debt

The government is in terrible debt. 30 trillion dollars is unfathomable to some. You could buy a continent with that much money. I don't mean anything small. According to Wikipedia, you can buy either UK, France or India roughly twice if you some left over.

A sneaky way to control and own TSMC in the future to hinder future competitors. You know who their target is. They are very afraid that the country will become stronger than Them.

It's just that, in the grand scheme of things, you could definitely use $6.6 billion to give more than 7,000 jobs. That $6.6 billion going to this chip fab could be used for much better things that create way more jobs that are in the range of maybe even several million people. Or, my view is that the government should spend less, but that $6.6 billion could've been spent responsibly and created enough jobs to provide more value to the economy in return than the initial value of the spending.

You can't survive unless you have relatives or friends. Some low end jobs are available like a delivery driver which I currently do. Not horrible but not good.

The US government is doing all this while they have a national debt of $34.4 trillion, compared with a GDP of $26 trillion. And that debt was $33.2 trillion only 3 months ago. American government spending is out of control. I don't hate the idea of subsidies to open new semiconductor fabs, but America can't finance such expensive operations when they're in this much debt, and it doesn't bring in enough new jobs to be worth it for their economy.

I do it just to show off!! All that work will be done by Latinos and Indians... who are the cheap labor of the world... this factory is just for the gringos to brag about in front of China and the world.
