Anonymous, 13 Apr 2024Wouldn't you take LTPO and more battery over 4k?LTPO doesn't guarantee you battery life. It's a complex issue and so far it's only Sasmung that has benefited from display battery savings. Current 1V without LTPO beats out all of the flagships with LTPO screen when it comes to battery life.
Brightness is whole another story.

So many people complain about the lack of the headphone jack on other phone comment sections. Sony has still kept it. Yet, Sony sells poorly compared to the other brands.

Without 4k screen it should be cheaper. That makes it very competitive against other flagships

And 21:9 is more prevalent than 5%, Id say more like 20% in video media.
And is also a joy for gaming and social apps.
But hey, if going more generic 20:9 means a price cut, Im ok with that.

I just hoped Xperias would in time equal that jap car design standards too, those cars are also a joy to look at, whilst Xperias look just too "usual" and generic.
They should seriously up the back design.

i have the Xperia 5v, to be honest the 21:9 ratio doesn't bother me much with content (youtube i will be scrolling for comments most of the time)(Netflix movie usually has no black bar) the tallness for 5 series is actually decent (kinda too tall for 1 series tbh) , what i having problem with is the buggy android 14 patch....what could go wrong with nearly stock android, Sony come on.

One of the issues of the 21:9 screen aspect ratio is app support. Sometimes games dont scale properly to the 21:9 screen size when in vertical mode (games that you don't rotate to play). This results in either the game not working at all (crashing) or barely working and looks like shit. Going to a standard size means higher support for apps and games.... so its kind of a no brainer. if the apps wont allow for 21:9 vertical then just change the phone to support the more common sizes that everyone develops for.
its kind of like AMD in the desktop computer side. They pushed for years to change processors but 0 games would properly use them.... talking much older before ryzen, like the 9590 and 8350 which everyone claimed "not an 8 core" when windows itself used to report it as 8 core, it wasn't until ryzen came out, that windows changed its code and reported as 4 core, which made people sue AMD over false pretenses. AMD settled simple to not have to stay in court wasting money against a frivilous lawsuit. so with that in mind, games didn't properly use the processor so you had weak performance. yet if you were on linux, those users would generally code apps to properly use the cpu and you got way more performance than you expect. AMD still has similiar issues with the graphics sides of things. many developers will code for NVidia specifically and ignore testing on AMD, so when the game launches you get dismal performance on AMD until they patch it (if they ever even choose to). meanwhile the few games that actually code for both brands (nvidia + AMD) you end up seeing better performance on AMD from properly using the cards technologies (call of duty/warzone as examples. the 6900xt actually shits on the 3090 even though the 3090 is faster in other games. difference between coding specifically for "only nvidia" vs "both"....)

I really, really do not like this change, especially if the cameras are the same. Why bother messing with good things? The key differentiators? I hope that 4K is still available, but with the aspect ratio apparently changing I doubt it will be. I am a user of a Sony Xperia device; if I wanted a device with a different aspect ratio — or without a 4K screen — I would have bought one. I have no intention of buying this device if both of these things are not available.
It is a shame because the sixth generation was the most special to me and Sony seems to want to make it worse than the fifth. Where is the uniqueness now? The value?

Bravosixgoingdark, 12 Apr 2024So according to sources if true 19.5:9 is only for this yea... moreUnfortunately that's a no go. They've dropped the custom display due to bom leveling. New internals are getting more expensive and Xperia is moving less and less units so its not sustainable for them to have many custom parts. It is what it is. Maybe, just maybe, they can find another supplier that will do 21:9 4K for reasonable price sometime in the future but chances are pretty slim. 5 series is being canceled and 10 series might retain 21:9 because that display is junk anyway and probably dirt cheap.
