Sony Xperia 1 VI leaked renders show the new aspect ratio

12 April 2024
As previously rumored, it's shorter and wider than its predecessor.

It's 20:5:9. Not like it's 20:9 or something.

Glad that they don't go through the mainstream "punch hole" route and keep the symmetrical bezel instead, unlike what Asus did with their ROG series. 😒

Mixed feelings about this. I have Xperia 5 II myself with the tall aspect ratio and I think it's kind of trash for my usage, BUT it was nice to have this option available on the market - if someone e.g. watches a lot of movies on their phone, the 21:9 might have been an interesting choice.

The Xperia 1 VI is now a "mainstream" device which will appeal more people.
Most people don't like that tall 21:9 aspect ratio. Just read some consumer reviews. Complaints about black bars left and right when watching videos since there's is hardly any 21:9 content on the internet. Complaints about the height of the device making reaching the top of the screen
harder. Yes for split screen use the 21:9 ratio is beneficial but how many users are using split screen regularly on their smartphone? The 21:9 ratio was just a USP gimmick just like the 4k resolution.
If using a "standard" display (resolution and aspect ratio) will also reduce the price of the device then the Xperia 1 VI might finally end up being a competitive flagship device in the eyes of the consumer which could then outsell the Xperia 1V.

Almost perfect for me but should go for 6.7inch display.this ones probably 6.5 :/

Bravosixgoingdark, 12 Apr 2024So according to sources if true 19.5:9 is only for this yea... moreThere are also sources claiming that Sony goes for 19.5:9 screen panel to save cost on hardware BoM. We'll see how it goes on, especially when Qualcomn has warned OEM that the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be even more expensive than the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 3*.

I still maintain that 21:9 is the best aspect ratio for on-screen app splitting. But considering how expensive hardware parts are, particularly the SoC, I can understand why Sony decided to forgo the bespoke screen panel for an off-the-shelf unit to save cost. I'd be surprised if Sony can maintain the current Xperia 1 Mk5 RRP despite the BoM increase. Even Samsung cannot do that.

So according to sources if true 19.5:9 is only for this year they'll go back to 21:9 after the supplier issues are solved. I still love the fact they kept the front firing speakers and notch less screen. Some longer software support and lower price would be great

                        Galaxy Z Fold cheap edition.

                          Interesting choice Sony!

I think maybe for next year they should also: decrease the display resolution, remove the front-firing loudspeaker, they should also remove the microSD card, yeah get rid of the Headphone Jack, and maybe add some bloat to the Software. Then it's perfect 😏

PS: also change the name to Ultra, it adds +5 coolness factor 😎

Dammit still no under display fingerprint from sony. Its been 9 years since they first introduced it on xperia Z5. Flagship nowadays should be use under display fingerprint for convenience position for both right/left handed person

noooo... we love 21:9... that's make it so special and iconic

Thank you GSM Arena. My serious reference site (superb complete test) for mobiles.
Sumahodigest repeats all the rumors but only about 3/10 are accurate in the end

I support Japanese brands but Sony has been the only one in Europe for a long time. (And I have Technics EAH-AZ80 headphones) This 1 VI (provisional name confirmed in May) will replace my 1 V. But Sony Xperia is dying out nicely. Maybe....
Probably end of Series 5 and Pro. It is possible that this year only 1 VI, 10 VI, and Ace IV in Japan. Check this in 1 month. I like having a different mobile phone and I would go all the way. How will the end be signified? I guess not when the latest model comes out. But the following spring at the time of the rumors of the new ones. At this point I would take a last model a second time to use them for a very long time. A friend still uses a 2018 XZ2 and not bad at all! Too bad Sharp doesn't come out of Japan. Hopefully more interesting next year, but I'm looking forward to buying this 1 VI all the same. Hope nice colors and fast availability (Switzerland/EU June like last year??

Phones shouldn't be wider than 73mm, specially iphones with their weird 19:9 are way to fat. Might as well use a phablet then.

Still looks tall to me. No difference than before 🤔

Honestly don't mind this simple design they've kept up, pretty appealing to me, don't really see anything wrong with it.

In my own opinion, if I wanted something fancy to make my phone look nicer I'd rather just buy a skin or a case
