Sony is dead in market share even in Japan! And weak in photo, not even top 10. When people want good photo smartphone they think about iPhone, Haweui, Honor, Samsung, Pixel, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, OnePlus. Sony can be compare to Asus, Motorola, Nothing Phone and Realme.

It's not really that they're giving up. It's a cost cutting measure.
Going to a more widespread form factor means that you have less custom parts to order and they will be cheaper to buy.
Sony has been on a cost cutting spree for the past few years. They're cutting corners everywhere they can.
EU is working on a new law that would forces phone markers to offer at least 5 years of security updates. Let's see if Sony finally upgrades their policy.

Had a 1 iv. Myself and many other customers wanted to see a better battery, better auto mode in the camera, more reliable fingerprint sensor, and longer software support. But instead they remove one of the most unique features of sony phones which myself and others loved. This company wants to crash its own smartphone business istg. If cost is an issue then lower the resolution. No one uses the 4k mode anyway

I dont like the soft curved corners on their new phones. Old design with this screen ratio would look much sleeker

Best looking, easy to use and reliable phones Sony are
I still use daily my Xperia 10ii. I didn`t updated it yet. No need and also from ii to v gen. are very few upgrades.
Also curious about 10vi this year

Cameras exactly the same? Might as well price it like last year's phones as well then, like 900 dollars or lower, considering they're getting rid of the 4K display (a Unique Selling Point) and the 21:9 aspect ratio which had no black bars when watching movies (another USP).

Fair enough, with 74.5mm it's luckily not as wide as other 76-79mm flagships. So yeah, 20.5:9 is still better than 20:9 or 19.5:9
