I hope Sonyputs tbeeiPkaystation expertise and makes a sleeper gaming phone similar to the Rog 8 Pro - that's where Sony can shine AND charge an arm & a legend accepted as reasonable.

I have always been a Sony and Xperia fan and i liked the way Sony has always make a difference with there 21:9 aspect ratio and phone designs and it has been so awesome to me, however I'd still prefer the 21:9 aspect ratio on the Xperia 1 vi even if the 6.9" screen rumor is true. Keep it on Xperia aspect ratio and probably change design.

So, regarding progress, some features are stuck to the old specs, and some are downgraded..? Ok

some say that they will ditch the 21:9 ratio so we'll see. Sony practically disappeared from the market for the past 4-5 years.

Alexz80, 23 Apr 2024yes with 6.5" is better hehe...No please, not any bigger. Let's just have the 10 series smaller. Already 6.1 is too big for some of us and that's the minimum that we can find. There's more than enough out there with 6.5+ displays.

not sure the rumor is even true about ditching 21:9 Sony never said anything about ditching that. there's no leaks of the physical phone there was a supposed case leak but that didn't look a definitive answer to no 21:9. Same goes for the move away from 4k. they've had 4k in their phones since z5 premium so I don't think moving away from that is the best idea. id really like to see triple 48mp camera. all these rumors and leaks are just someone's opinion. they got it wrong last time could get it wrong again.

Anonymous, 19 Apr 2024It's not that simple to call high density pixel screen... moreThe 4K resolution is only available in a few apps though. From GSM Arena review: "The full 4K resolution is used primarily in multimedia apps such as Photos and video playback/streaming across different services."
So reading text will be done at Full HD resolution (2,560 x 1,096 px) which is lower dpi than flagships from other manufacturers. Having the screen at 120Hz will use battery even if the screen is low-res for a flagship. Me personally I would rather have fixed 120Hz in most apps, my S23 Ultra has "60Hz lag" visible in everyday operation. Which my Tab S7+ doesn't suffer from (fixed 120Hz).

Sony is the only voice of reason in the smartphone world today. If you look at a Sony phone, there's absolutely NO gimmick and everything has a pro-user function, even the way phone looks. There's headphone jack, microSD card. There's IP65/68. Now its even better with 19.5:9 display and no 4K (no it's not a sarcasm, 4k drains battery and 21:9 is too tall). Well done Sony, keep it going and teach others how to make a logical product. We'll always be there to buy your phones, new or used (those cannot afford new), as long as you continue on this path.

Anonymous, 19 Apr 2024they still make them, just few units for their team and rev... moreYou really have no clue. But keep on living in your own fantasy.
Sony ist marketed in Asia and Europe mainly. And sure, there are not many units as a Samsung. But there are loyal buyers who wants a non mainstream camera with a smartphone attached. With real colors and calibration. Sorry, nothing for the average joe/consumer. The more Sony sells of these 1 x, the worse it is for people who want something special.

Anonymous, 19 Apr 20244k is overkill on mobiles. Some still struggle with 1440p a... moreIt's not that simple to call high density pixel screen an overkill. Xperia 1 is narrow phone (or it used to be, starting with mark VI it will not be) so it renders smaller text on screen and small type needs high dpi to be smooth clear. Compared to Galaxy Ultra which has very chunky screen and renders bigger text on screen. Galaxy Ultra has close to 150dpi less of resolution compared to 1V and when you put comparably same size text on both screens the difference in edge clarity is visible between the two.
Mark VI will have around 540dpi and it will be the densest QHD+ display because of its small diagonal size. That's still 100dpi less than 1V and I can bet the difference in text rendering will be obvious between 1VI and 1V.

David, 19 Apr 2024I like the switch in aspect ratio but not the loss of the 4... moreHonestly, they didn't switch nothing significant pretty much when it comes to display ratio. New display will be a bit fatter but it will still accommodate 21:9 content with tiny horizontal black bars instead of full screen. That's about it.
Now the loss of high res screen is a dud. Hopefully it will not be that much visible on new display cause 1VI will be the smallest QHD+ display on the market.

I like the switch in aspect ratio but not the loss of the 4K screen. Competitors can do always set at 3K screens no problem, so Sony having to drop the resolution outside of certain apps was just an excuse for sub par batteries and thermal management.
