These can be far more damaging to national security than Whatsapp. China should get a dose of its own medicine.

Anonymous, 19 Apr 2024It just said it, so yes, it can.The appstore company must be neutral when any government say them to remove individual developers app. If they don't cooperate, government can sue them on basis of not following their gov law. They have only 2 options, cooperate with government or remove their business from that country.

Apple statement -
"We are obligated to follow the laws in the countries where we operate, even when we disagree"
Apple cannot say we agree or disagree. They are just appstore holder, not app developer. They have no say when government wants some app to be removed.
