Goverments need to get on their asses with that, just like they did with Apple and USB-C.

I Just Read, 29 Apr 2024"Why snapdragon stuck at 8 and not advancing, like 9 1... moreIts easy to manage the name of the future generations without crossing the number limits

To reach to 8 gen 10... they wont have to worry on nomenclature and can go ahead till the year 2030 without worries

Rosso, 24 Apr 20248 is their product tier name, like i3/5/7/9 is for intel"Why snapdragon stuck at 8 and not advancing, like 9 10 etc."

The correct answer is these leakster do NOT, NOT! have inside information or specific information that they are passing on.
This is a article with two main issues: the manufacturers which have consistently launched their latest flagship with Qualcomm latest SoC; and Qualcomm.

It is fairly easy to predict that if you are ALREADY using Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, your next flagship a year later won't.
And finally Qualcomm have always, ALWAYS adopted a new naming standard when the process (nm) changes

Qualcomm will in October 2024 announce a 3nm SoC (upgraded from the 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3). With that comes a new name, Snapdragon 9? Oryon 3? (3nm) Gen 1.

The 8S Gen 3 is 4nm, if Qualcomm do the same 'tweak down' the flagship SoC it will be named Snapdragon ?S Gen 1 IF IT ALSO HAS THE SAME ARCHITECTURE AS THE FLAGSHIP.

Process (nm) and architecture BOTH go into the naming***

Put another shorter way Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is ONLY correct if Qualcomm October 2024 release is a 4nm SoC!

***If you look back at both the process and the architecture together it's quite an easy naming convention to follow. Calling it 8G4 is just an easy way to call the "gen" after 3.

KarstenPH, 24 Apr 2024There is still a limit on how much you can upgrade anything... moreSlight bump in price? Barely different? Why bother? Putting out 20 varieties of phones when 8 or 9 may offer a meaningful change looks to me like the washing detergent isle at the store....flooding the market to take up shelf space from a competitor. Totally useless in my book. Not only that, it is doing a great disservice to the consumer who gets little value for their hard-earned money but only find that out after they buy the product which has been WAY overhyped.

Hardware issues are not to be spoken of in 2024 or something? those lines are caused by poorly manufactured, assembled, power-managed or quality-tested panels and are serious topics since phones are ridiculously expensive and come with less than half-baked software lately. How is not talking about these issues "Waking up"?

Users beware, Gen 4 is still 4nm, but more power-hungry and more powerful. CPU will be hot, very HOT.

we use SD870 and Kirin 980. the only reason to update (buy new) devices is battery degradation and camera upgrades. CPUs are capable of handling all tasks without a problem. and they are 4y old chipsets.
phones really need better and replaceable batteries

As long as u have a cooler and ur phone is charged to 100%. U can get solid 4 to 6 hours of nonstop genshin impacting... Though the game is better on PC anyway. Infact it's better to play breath of the wild anyway...

Lol just got the Samsung S20+ and the snapdragon 865 haven't given me any problems at all. Tested it in hundreds of games and it's all smooth 30 to 120 fps. It's basically pointless to go for all these high speced phones especially since there's nothing you're gonna use them for. Gaming on Mobile sucks ass now, even I got a gaming laptop after getting the phone and it's a million times better. So instead of getting a 1k$ phone, get a 600$ budget gaming laptop. Or a 1k$ beast.

Anonymous, 24 Apr 2024SD 865 for me because of 5G modem. But the rest, I agree... moreI was gonna say the QSD 855, as that came with a notable battery life increase, at the same time offering a notable performance uplift. The QSD 865 was one that I wasn't too happy for, the initial rollout had some troubles. But software updates fixed the leaky voltage and thirsty antenna, and it was fully improved on the QSD 870 version. On paper, the Exynos chipset was better because it had a vastly superior Single-Core Performance. This was Samsung chasing after Apple. But those were all synthetic and short-term metrics, in real-world conditions and running practical tests the latest Exynos was only matching the last year's Snapdragon. And the same happened to Qualcomm from the earliest QSD 888 and to the latest QC 8g1. This 2.5 years of chipsets were simply bad.

The first proper upgrade came with the QC 8g1+, over the 3 year old QSD 865. And a similar half step upgrade to the QC 8g2. Then another half-step upgrade to the QC 8g3. And likely it will be another half-step upgrade to the QC 8g4. Which means it's worthy to be an upgrade from the QC 8g1+ in terms of battery life and performance, to a point where you could notice or take advantage of it. And yes, we do need AndroidOS to grow up, and get more mature and sophisticated to take advantage of that horsepower. From proper multitasking, to Desktop Mode, to running Professional Applications.
