Here's the first phone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4

A new leak sheds some light on what we can expect later this year.

Xiaomi sells numbers. But often their flagships have poorer thermal management, even battery life is often average or just below that. Considering how more than adequate phones have become for what the average user really uses them for, bigger computing numbers do nothing but dazzle people into impulsive buying

Anonymous, 24 Apr 2024but but....they keep telling us that technology is improvin... moreIt's all a game and people keep failing for it just like in other aspects of our lives. Marketing is way more insidious than many realize. Forums, comment sections etc are prime targets and they target kids. This puts pressure on parents to buy and the kids slowly get manipulated.

Today it's updates and new OS versions. Every new update gains efficiency in a few areas while adding animations and other things that have the opposite effect. New OS, oh i see lag.. garbage this and that and a new chipset gets free marketing from the youths. Work, politics, markets, school, its all the same and the central issue has been around in some form for centuries. Unfortunately, we can't and shouldn't overclock evolution.. we can only mitigate the damage done and hope humanity survives it's infancy.

Anonymous, 24 Apr 2024Why snapdragon stuck at 8 and not advancing, like 9 10 etc? 8 is their product tier name, like i3/5/7/9 is for intel

Anonymous, 24 Apr 2024but but....they keep telling us that technology is improvin... moreLearn proper English so you can be taken seriously. Talking about pre-schoolers, yet you can't even speak proper English.

With how crazy powerful modern flagship SoCs are, smartphone OEMs should really start developing a custom Desktop Mode flavour to rival the likes of Samsung DeX, Motorola Ready For, and Honor Magic Desktop. There's no point giving x86-rivalling firepower if we can't use our premium smartphone as a PC. Also, not everyone is into ecosystem nonsense.

P.S. Xiaomi can easily port their PC Mode, as found in the Mix Fold 3 and Pad 6S Pro 12.4, into their premium smartphones.

Acorns, 24 Apr 2024Chips that open apps 0.00001% faster than 5 years ago blah ... moreAgree. My old Moto G7 Power would run circles around most phones today in battery life. Many other areas are improved but battery life isn't one of them.

Xiamio might use a reditor with there SD Gen 4 since there's no effiecnt cores 🤣

Anonymous, 24 Apr 2024Believe me or not Samsung is the best brand out there for phones.Best in where??? Oh giving overheating throttable exinos with a nice green line in display and nice banana blur in photos. Well yes they have features noone else does.

Anonymous, 24 Apr 20243 year old flagship chip can handle every app and website. Funny but no. 3 years old chipset is SD 888 and this was unfortunate one due to heating issues. SD 8 gen 1 were little bit better still not good enough.
And those phones barely runs Genshin Impact, Forza Motosport and Diiablo immortal with maximum detais on and without a lagging or overheating issues.

Chips that open apps 0.00001% faster than 5 years ago blah blah blah yet still with batteries that last 1-2 days max! Surely this should be where companies should be investing. Being able to charge your phone in 5 minutes is fine if you sit next to a wall socket but how about a phone that can last multiple days between charging? Battery tech is where development should be focused and I know there's a new type of battery being tested now but surely in 2024 we should be getting longer lasting batteries in £1,000+ phones?

KarstenPH, 24 Apr 2024There is still a limit on how much you can upgrade anything... morebut but....they keep telling us that technology is improving rapidly, every year 30-40% improvents here and there and everywhere...

                        so which one is it?
Either technology is not improving at a fast pace and the poor companys are struggling to give us something new, with a price hike offcourse
Or, its improving fast and the companys give the bear minimum that most consumers are gonna belive at the maximum prices most consumers are gonna pay for maximum profit?
You dont have to be a preschooler to know which one is the right answer.

But hey, as long as people keep buying....
no wonder the dumbphone movement is getting bigger and bigger, people are starting to think with their heads and are sick of this bs, 1000$ toys making companys billions

or stop using them if they get slower with an update?

what is your logic? devs make my app slower - go spend money???? you have too much money on your hands my friend, re-evaluate your life

I don't care about things like this anymore.

Start bringing the basics back to phones and stop making them purely profit vehicles.

                                      That's what will get interested.

Anonymous, 24 Apr 2024Companies haven't offered many substantial new feature... moreSD 865 for me because of 5G modem.

But the rest, I agreed .. just incremental upgrade with each gen .. nothing much to offer .. 5% - 10% faster than prev gen is not really noticeable irl.
