HMD Pulse trio unveiled: affordable phones with 'Gen 1 repairability'

24 April 2024
You should be able to replace the battery with simple tools at home in 5 minutes. iFixit will sell repair kits that will also let you change the display.

rizki1, 24 Apr 2024old 5.0 bluetooth version, 720p display 600 nits, 10W charg... moreThe Nokia G11 Plus already has that and costs $70 or less lol

"HMD is betting that consumers are moving to more environmentally-conscious products and are placing an emphasis on repairability. "

Now that's a losing bet if I've ever seen one.

Anton .el PAPI., 24 Apr 2024At least they are not going to continue sinking the good na... moreThe name had been already sunk by Microsoft to the rock bottom before HMD took over, so HMD doesn't have anything to do with the brand reputation obviously

Repairability is really nice, but not for phones with under average performance, which essentially kills the purpose that they would be good for: longevity

Make a higher end phone with these repair perks then we can talk, until then, this is just another attempt from HMD which we will forget in 2 days

After repairing a Fairphone of a non techy friend, my opinion about repairability changes dramatically.

These HMD phones are not easy repairable unless they go the Fairphone route.

HMD should be more honest and call it "easier" to repair (big difference if something is easy to repair versus easier)

At least they are not going to continue sinking the good name of Nokia

Vasra, 24 Apr 2024One day, hopefully, we'll have this with: - Mediate... moreI think you need to touch grass

One day, hopefully, we'll have this with:

                  - Mediatek, Snapdragon and 3rd party RISC-V SoCs

                  - AOSP with or without GMS or whatever competitors (Huawei etc) have as an alternative

                  - Physical switches for Wifi, BT, GPS and 3G/4G/5G/6G radios/cameras/mics (so we can actually NOT be spied on when we want)

                  - Enough spare parts for ports, batteries, etc for replacement for at least 5-7 years

                  - Unlocked to carriers, Unlocked but re-lockable bootloaders (install what you want, its your phone after all, Not Google's, Not Samsung's, not Apple's) and still pass all sorts of security tests so that you can run the apps you want

                  - Thriving free, FOSS and alternatively paid-for 3rd party support ecosystem, like we have for many Linux distros.

Maybe one day, when people finally wake up to the sad state of current "smart" phones.

old 5.0 bluetooth version, 720p display 600 nits, 10W charging ahh feels like a 2020 budget Chinese phone.

And here I was, hoping for a good device with an ips screen. Rubbish processor. I hope there's at least a company willing to make one good phone with decent specs and no oled.

Something really weird is that HMD also lists a version of the Pulse+ with 12GB of storage??? Not RAM. Storage.
