the Xperia 10 VI could be a solid alternative to the new Pixel 8a, considering that the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 only trails the Tensor G3 by 7% in our benchmarks.

Londonbikerider74, 07 May 2024I don't think the Xperia 10 is a gaming phone or one t... moreWho said only gamers need fast chip? A fast and efficient chip shows noticeable difference in day to day task, including web, media and battery life. Stop giving excuses to OEMs to release same chip every year. Last 3 years they've been releasing 695 and 6 gen 1 for few years in a row with no real upgrade. 6 gen 1 (and 7s gen 2) are even worse than the ancient 778g in certain aspects. This is absolutely unacceptable. At this rate it makes no sense to buy a new phone. I'd say boycott 10 series and get a used/refurbished 5V for that money, much better buy and you'll honestly be a happier person.
I expected Sony to improve on 10 series, given the 5 series has been dropped, to turn this into a competitive midranger with microSD/headphone jack against Poco/Nord etc but clearly didn't.

I don't think the Xperia 10 is a gaming phone or one that will get often used for, then it doesn't need to have the fastest chipset.
IMO the average buyer is adamant for a high standard screen (60hz shouldn't even be said in jest), good cameras (with a better app, many thanks in advance), same good battery life (faster charging would be welcome), stereo speakers, and especially to keep the following: expandable memory, audio jack, Assistant button and notification led.

Anonymous, 07 May 2024Both 4 x a78 + 4 x a55 ( higher clock on 7sg2) Modem X62 ... moreBut 778g has newer ARMv8.4-A vs 7s gen 2/6 gen 1's older ARMv8.2-A. And not to mention 778g is TSMC whereas other two are Samsung. TSMC 6nm is better than Samsung's 4nm

Darth Caesium, 06 May 2024It's not even time to go 90Hz. 120Hz is basically stan... moreApple's SE line are just half-baked flagship killers. If you want an iPhone on the cheap, buy a used one. iPhone 12's are not even past 350 USD.
No way your demanding $429 for a 720p LCD display @60hz, no ultrawide, small battery and poor battery life as well. The only thing killing flagships is the chipset, 5G and the brand name. 5G is useless as it will drain the soul out of the puny 2020mAh battery. Poco X6 Pro slaughters this thing anyday. They also have no excuse. Also what's with charging 50 bucks to double from 64 to 128GB?? And another $100 if you wanna go to 256GB?! No way I'm paying 600 dollars for a phone that can be dead from 100% in less than 6 hours.

Are you all trying to compare Chinese offerings with Sony and talking about price difference? I guess so.
So, how many units they each produce every year? Sony is not depending on mobile sector and they won't and can't match Chinese offerings. No one but Chinese can. Sure, it would be great if Sony could bring their prices a bit down, but some of you guys are expecting way to much.
Some mentioning the famous Galaxy A52s 5G but noone seems to understand how did that phone happend to be that good of a value. That year A52 was first released in 4G and 5G versions, about 6 months later they introduced A52s 5G only because of chip shortage, there wasn't enough of SD750 chipsets which were meant for A52 5G. So what Samsung did was just implement newer SD778G and place it in "old" body. It was just that one time. SD778G was a premium midrange chipset, not an actual midrange, but people somehow thought exactly that, so they got surprised when basic A53 (and A54) came out with less power. A52s 5G was not a new phone "per se" or their standard offering.
But who cares right? Price-performance ratio is all what people want. Fair enough.
People generally don't care about stories from behind the scenes. Also, people generally don't care about performance that much. Only people who likes to play games will be utterly gutted because of the chipset choice.
Me? I don't care for performance as anything around and past SD855 level of performance is more then enough for anything besides gaming. I care more for battery life and with this one Im a bit scared because SD 690/695 was made on TSMC, but this SD 6 Gen 1 is Samsung made 😐
