Beast of a chip. Though I still feel like stability and optimisations will be better on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Anonymous, 09 May 2024Emulators are not optimized for Mediatek because they do no... moreYou can find the kernel sources of any devices with Mediatek's sold in Western countries...it's very easy, you just have to got on github.
About GPU itself, opensources drivers are available on Arm's website.
For last gen, it's here (last gen : Valhall...but you can find Bifrost or Midguard too) :
          https://developer.arm.com/downloads/-/mali-drivers/valhall-kernel
It lacks some OpenGLES stuff, that's why it's more safe to use Vulkan on Mali.
Problem : when 1 guy works on Mali, 10 work on Adreno ! Results : about 6 additional months to wait.

Today, most emulators work fine...there are some games that don't work on yuzu or Skyline but supports exist.

jiyen235, 07 May 2024They were losing/slightly worse than Qualcomm in Single Cor... moreIn truth both 8gen3 & D9300 are more efficient chips but Android is not particularly good at battery management.also Android apps have worse optimisation of chip than Android.

So despite using better chip Android phones fare worse in performance & efficiency compared to Apple.

Also only large core design of D9300 is also a good choice from Mediatek as ARM small cores are literally trash. That's why Mediatek used large cores only & clocked them low instead of using small cores while 8gen 3 used only 2 small cores.

                I like design of 8gen 3 better.
Its more are efficiency & perform equal to all large core design of Mediatek.
But both are equally capable chip all-round.

Those API aren't bad on Mali/Immortalis...
When 8 Gen 2 and 9200 were launched, Vulkan was even far more optimised for 9200 on Ray-Tracing.
Qualcomm's early Ray-tracing drivers were awful.
Basemark In Vitro test was nearly 70% faster on 9200 at the begining.

They're allowed to reach peaks of 3.4 ghz but then manufacturers can choose to do whatever they want. Leading to huge differences in benchmarks AND exports in video and photo editing.

                                    MediaTek: King 👑

They were losing/slightly worse than Qualcomm in Single Core tests so they boosted the BIG core and left the others alone.

I wish these chips had a boost technology like Intel's Turbo Boost. Have a baseline clock speed that the chip can handle without a sweat and not heat up too much (30-35 degrees celsius to the touch). And then have boost clocks that can kick in when needed and some superboost tech or something that can be used in short bursts of 1 min tasks or something like photo editing. I think that would be great for people who want power and also great for manufacturers since they can have a more even playing field as the chip maker is doing all the work for them, so no huge variances between manufacturers. The cons are that the chip maker has to work more.

Would be cool if they either did that or added a super efficient mode, something that can allow an Android to outlast an Apple phone with the same sized battery. That mode will turn on when the phone isn't being used and with some optimization the phone could be a powerful beast that can save juice quite well. Idk what black magic Vivo does but I feel like that's what they did on the X100 Pro for battery cus I'm sure the Dimensity Chip is less efficient than Qualcomm's cus of the big cores. Vivo's tuning must've been solid.

Anyways keep up the good work Mediatek. Hope Huawei can work with Mediatek or something and use their tech to improve the speed at which they're making progress on their chips. It'll be revolutionary fr.
