MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ brings increased clock speed and improved AI processing

07 May 2024
MediaTek's latest flagship chipset is expected to debut on the vivo X100s on May 13.

They were losing/slightly worse than Qualcomm in Single Core tests so they boosted the BIG core and left the others alone.

I wish these chips had a boost technology like Intel's Turbo Boost. Have a baseline clock speed that the chip can handle without a sweat and not heat up too much (30-35 degrees celsius to the touch). And then have boost clocks that can kick in when needed and some superboost tech or something that can be used in short bursts of 1 min tasks or something like photo editing. I think that would be great for people who want power and also great for manufacturers since they can have a more even playing field as the chip maker is doing all the work for them, so no huge variances between manufacturers. The cons are that the chip maker has to work more.

Would be cool if they either did that or added a super efficient mode, something that can allow an Android to outlast an Apple phone with the same sized battery. That mode will turn on when the phone isn't being used and with some optimization the phone could be a powerful beast that can save juice quite well. Idk what black magic Vivo does but I feel like that's what they did on the X100 Pro for battery cus I'm sure the Dimensity Chip is less efficient than Qualcomm's cus of the big cores. Vivo's tuning must've been solid.

Anyways keep up the good work Mediatek. Hope Huawei can work with Mediatek or something and use their tech to improve the speed at which they're making progress on their chips. It'll be revolutionary fr.

MediaTek sells the most and has the highest marketshare of mobile processors. MediaTek 9300 currently outperforms Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Google Tensor G3.

Mills, 07 May 2024So it's just the prime core overclocked (3.25 to 3.4) ... morePerformance D9300 is comparable to 8gen3 but it's the overall package like Modem & Driver support, that make 8gen3 the better one.

So it's just the prime core overclocked (3.25 to 3.4) and new AI features promising LLM support with Llama, Google, etc. Besides that, same CPU and GPU but the APU gets an upgrade, with a 10% jump from D9300.

Getting into the nitty gritty of things, this chip brings LPDDR5T, Wi-Fi 7 (I use Wi-Fi 5; normally 90 up, 30-40 down) and 320MP sensor capability against SD 8 Gen 3.

Nice work MediaTek. The may further close the gap between Media V. Snappy SoC

RaviSS, 07 May 2024I guess you mean no small core (A520). A720@2Ghz is the mos... moreA720 core is an efficient core.
But the main reason why Mediatek chose to completely skip A520 cores is the abysmal performance & efficiency of A520 cores.

A5X cores are among the worst designs in terms of Perf/Watt. Can you believe that Apple's small cores are almost 3X faster while consuming less enegy than A5X.
This goes to say how pathetic these cores are that even a much larger core at lower clocks is proving to be more efficient than these small cores & the blame goes to ARM itself.
So no wonder Mediatek decided to completely skip these cores while Snapdragon 8gen3 just have 2 of these cores.

If they increased voltage the efficiency is worse, but if they increased frequency thanks to a binned chip then the efficiency increases.

Same chip with one core 0.15GHz more.
                      Wow.

Can we now pretend this makes any difference over the regular?

Anders, 07 May 2024Whatever you think of Mediateks "all big" design.... moreDon't get too excited either ehh! Mediateck only works in China and maybe in some Asian countries! At a commercial level it does not compete with Qualcom and even less so at the income level* in which if you are right it is that it surpassed Samsung with its exynos* I personally prefer the pixel with this soc to that thing that it currently has

now that's what I call improvement. the future belong to MediaTek and Qualcomm need to watch out .

A720@2Ghz is the most efficient core ever at peak performance (as per Golden Reviewer). It's only at very low frequency and power (less than 0.1-0.15 watt per core) that it becomes less efficient than A520.

So, with A520 you might get more standby time, but as soon as you wake the phone up Dimensity 9300 becomes more efficient.

Whatever you think of Mediateks "all big" design. They deserve credit for how they've closed the gap on Snapdragon flagship chips in only the last few years.

5 years ago Mediatek flagship chips were nowhere near Qualcomm flagship chips.

Mediatek have surpassed Samsung Exynos with less time and less money than Samsung has had.

A suitable SoC for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Does it also have good efficiency and proper cooling? Pretty sure that was the issue with the BIG design here, omitting little cores.

vivo x100 pro with D9300 is burning because of no efficient core in their architecture. Again D9300+ with no efficient core.

For texynos I prefer this in the pixels
