I already pre-ordered a Pixel 8a to replace my wife's dying 2020 Motorola G Stylus. We are in Japan and the only option is the 128GB version. My Pixel 4a is on it's last leg and I am hoping it lasts till the Pixel 9 release. I will either get the small screen version of the Pixel 9 Pro or a Pixel 8a depending on information available at the time.

Just bought Pixel 8 for USD$500 equivalent, so no thanks.
I won't buy it until i see DXOMARK's display test results to make sure it isn't using the same disgusting rainbow-ing display used in Pixel 7 and 6.

18W charging is unacceptable. It's fine on the 7a's 90hz display, but on a 120hz display and a fairly large battery? Not going to age well at all. Why couldn't they have upgraded it to 20W-27W charging?
IMO, it's still better than the flagships Pixels, because more details (64MP (16MP) > 50MP (12MP)), but the only upgrade we needed on the 8a was the Tensor G3 and the improved brightness. Hopefully there is a 9a with faster charging because this would be a horrible way to end the A-series, especially if the regular Pixels still stick to the meh 50MP sensors in the future.

I would have already upgraded my OnePlus 7T to OnePlus 12, should there be No curved screen and different design for camera on OnePlus 12. Pixel 8a has no reasons yo even exist that too with battery hungry, sluggish Tensor G3 which is remapped crappy Exynos. Google should have used SD 7 series chipset on Pixel 8a

Anonymous, 12 May 2024Why get the 8a when the regular 8 costs the same?costs the same now. if you compare launch prices of both phones, it's a different story. soon, the price of the 8a will fall below 8

No reason to get this phone. Just a downgraded pixel 8.
Outside of Google, you get way better for similar prices. OnePlus, Xiaomi, heck even a refurbished Samsung S23 destroys the Pixel in so many areas.

Even 256GB is not enough and for said price every midranger is better.
When comes to midrangers and flagships 99% of phones out there are better than google pixel.
Google pixel is better only with list of updates apart from that is not a good device to buy because of CPU, super slow charging speeds, low memory and ram and billions else.

It has the same G3 tensor processor with the same modem problems. I'll wait for the Pixel 9 to see what the G4 has to offer.

Nope, boring phone, 0 innovation, same old 3 buttons phone, waiting for innovative phone with things like selfie camera inside the screen or 4+ buttons like iphones.
Android phone are boring right now. Pixel 8A = Redmi Note 13 Pro = Galaxy A55, all boring same phone that are the same as last year models.

for it being the entry point phone i would have expected a 3.5mm. no sd is normal, even back in the nexus day when the phones were on point for the price. the g3 soc is too weak for top level, maybe be ideal for this. i just think it's too weak in all other departments for the price even with heavy discount.

DBS, 12 May 2024Even if the phone wasn't oversized and lacking basic h... moreHaha, OneUI is a nightmare after i've used several chinese phones. Less bugs for sure, but it tries to be like Apple, taking the freedom from the user. In Chinese phones it's easy, if there's a function you can turn it on or off, no problem, they don't really care what you do with your phone. With Samsung, they know better what you need, so some things you simply can't do, with some things there are unintuitive workarounds
For example, you can't turn off Mobile data for particular Sim, you can't turn off data roaming for particular sim, if you remove primary sim(esim) on samsung, the primary (data) sim changes, and if it's the wrong one (with expensive data), woohho. I've lost $50 in roaming charges in a minute. Morons. I'm 100% sure Google software is light years better than Samsung's.
