"lose some display quality (no HDR10+ and no GG Victus)"
Any references to impact of GG versions on display quality?

This phone is grossly overpriced. You can buy a open box Pixel 8 Pro on eBay for the same price as the 256gb version of the Pixel 8a. Google wake up!!

I might have gone for it if the price was right. For me 7 years of software update is hardly important, I'd be changing my phone again in at least 2 to 3 years time anyway, I really doubt if some can use a phone for that long in the first place 😀. The price was disappointing, to say the least. Maybe if they bundle it with some irresistible offers in the future, I still might, but for now, I'm in no hurry for any advanced or delayed bookings.

Like i said for the A55 and A35, wait a couple of months and buy it for much cheaper. This one after 2-3 months will be €399 lol
Or if buying now, go for an S24, costs under €600 now from Spain and pretty much kills the pixel 8a in everything...

Even if the phone wasn't oversized and lacking basic hardware features like expandable storage and a headphone jack, the awful software in these Google phones is enough to keep me at bay.
I'm far too used to the vastly more advanced (and better designed) software of OneUI to put up with Google's Pixel Experience.

It should've kept the bezels of the Pixel 7a and the 128GB variant should've been sold for $400 while the 256GB variant should've been $450. There's nothing wrong about it besides these two points. I know that the prices will drop very soon and yada yada ya, but having it initially priced so high is just causing reverse-mindshare, it will make people think it's more expensive even after the price drops.
Also, the Pixel 8 really should've had LTPO, autofocus on the selfie, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and a matte back; while the Pixel 8 Pro should've had a matte camera visor and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. There's just not enough points of differentiation between the Pixel 8a and Pixel 8, and this would've helped. Plus, the Pixel 8 series really should've just gone all in on the matte aesthetic, and all three phones should've had the same corner radius.

Once it does, it might be recommendable purely for the extended software support at that price point. For the non-enthusiast, simply having a phone they can keep for the rest of the decade is a bigger value add than many features.

I am not in the market for a new phone so for me: none of the above.
But the 8a seems promising, certainly when the prices drop and usually that happens quickly after the release. Better wait till summer is the advice.

Imo at this point, people better just get the regular Pixel 8 on sale. The 8a would be a decent buy once the regular 8 inventory is depleted, or when Google put it on sale.
TL;DR: don't buy it at full price.

Seeing the bezels in a video... Big yikes. Like damn, my 4a is phenomenal next to the 8a. I appreciate nothing not skimping on the bezels with the Phone (2a).
