Nick Tegrataker, 11 May 2024GSMArena's full-res JPEG samples say otherwise, sorry.Second sample is recorded on 85mm. Set brightness (the best results on HDR OLED) to minimum 80%. Orginal clip (film) has much more samples recorded on 85mm and it is super freak machine...I dont need testers opinion.

The telephoto lens on Xperia 1 V wasn't sharp - It was struggling to resolve any more details at 125mm than it was at 85mm, and the softness of the optics is especially noticeable when you compare it to Pura 70 Ultra's telephoto lens which covers a similar field of view (90mm) as the short end of Xperia's tele. It was applying a LOT of sharpening to compensate for it and the resulting photos simply didn't look that good.

It's a lot harder to do an optical zoom lens correctly compared to prime lenses. I wish, at least this time around, the lens is going to be able to resolve 12MP throughout its zoom range.

            A 1/2.9" exmor T would match 1/2" exmor RS.
While 1/2.5" exmor T according to sony can match 1/1.56" exmor RS.

Sorry but even iPhone, Galaxy an Xiaomi cannot match Xperia video quality level. With xperia you can record a shot with parallax on a telephoto lens from your hand and it will look practically like a gimbal shot. I compared the Xperia with the 14Pro and when it comes to slow motion, there is nothing to compare.
You don't even realize what an advanced video system Sony has implemented in the 1V, a system with which it is possible without a gimbal, achieving the highest video quality plus HDR (BT2020)

                  - it is not exmor T.
                  - readout is too slow
                  - cam bump would be huge like xiaomi /oppo, sony does not want that, it is why Pro-i had it cropped.

                  Simple to understand?

4K was sacrificed in favor of LTPO, because both together would be very prohibitive price to pay to supplier.
The screen was already most expensive among non-foldables.

Now there is no longer the signature screen ratio specific to the Xperia and no longer 4k high resolution.... What is the argument to buy an Xperia instead of other smartphones (Galaxy ultra, IPhone Pro, Xiaomi Ultra or Pura Ultra...) ?
Yeah ! he keeps the jack and the SD slot but is that enough ?

Anonymous, 11 May 2024With camera bump over 14mm.So comparing brightness and expecting that Sony will fit an equally bright lens at a given focal length is ridiculous and only proves that most people writing here have no idea what they are talking about. This isn't directed at you.
The brightness of the telephoto lens in smartphones depends on the thickness of the device, not on the technology

The telephoto lens is only "fine" in the context of the overall smartphone market. Even Samsung has a 1/2.51" sensor. Sony's zooming tech is very cool and I commend them for it, but I wish they were able to put at least the LYT-600 in there, I'm pretty sure they CAN do that, they just are stingy, as they've shown with their main sensor.

My main problem is that this'll be the new setup for 2-3 years now. Judging by their past record from the inception of the Xperia 1 series. I just find it weird that the Xperia 1 series is so expensive but there has/had to be another "pro" model which sported a 1 incher. Sony's sensor making division might be on point but their phone division is extremely confused and has slowly but surely been going on the right path tho at least. Just stings more knowing others have more innovative sensors from Sony themselves.
