vivo X100 Ultra debuts with 200MP periscope cam and SD 8 Gen 3

13 May 2024
Its 1/1.4" ISOCELL HP9 sensor co-developed with Samsung is the largest telephoto sensor fitted on a smartphone to date.

I would recommend averagedadofficial.com - it has everything as Wondamobile, but a little cheaper. It's also unopened package (wondamobile opens them to install google stuff).
For more info check youtube profile of Average Dad. He also has instagram.
He also pays customs and everything.

It's quite exciting that this is the first phone that gives you 12.5 megapixel at 340mm (even though the color filter array is Tetra²pixel).
I wonder how long it will take until other phones will offer at least 12.5 megapixel at 340mm.

Maybe their algorithm for the pixel group switching gets optimised enough so that the overall implemenation results in good image quality across the zoom range.

Also, it can come quite handy in 4K video, where 200MP sensor is quite useless. But I agree that QuadBayer would be a nice compromise. In any case, we'll see soon enough when the reviews roll in.

At the presentation, it seems that Vivo confirmed that the HP9 is a Tetra²pixel sensor.
I think that manufacturers shouldn't sacrifice daylight image quality for less noise in extremely low light conditions. The image quality in good/average light conditions is much more important and Tetra²pixel leads to a worse sharpness than Quad Bayer or Bayer.
Therefore, it's possible that the 200 megapixel Tetra²pixel sensor won't deliver a much higher effective resolution than a 50 megapixel Quad Bayer sensor.

A 200 megapixel Quad Bayer sensor would be more appropriate in my opinion.

This is a worthy upgrade for my Samsung galaxy s23 ultra. I'll just have to wait few months to see how they will keep up with updates and improvements!

unfortunately, the curved screen design was repeated again in new Vivo products. We hope OnePlus will follow suit with a flat screen in this year's flagship.

I think the fact that this has the first ever Chinese designed and manufactured ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, makes it likely that we will see this on the next generation of flagship series phones. It should bring down the cost of ultrasonic fingerprint sensors significantly so they will likely become more mainstream

The phone is a beast of a flagship but it's not perfect as always, Why downgrade the battery charging aspect to 80W wired and 30W Wireless for such a big battery?!!

sniperwolf101, 13 May 2024Don't suppose you have a source or a link on that came... moreDon't see the camera kit sold anywhere either. It appears they collaborated with SmallRig but they don't have it available on their site either. Probably not yet released. Hopefully it has a battery, to give the phone a little extra juice, like the Xiaomi kit.

I'm starting to feel like it all modern flagship smartphones need to have a variable aperture for their main cameras - Not just a borderline useless one made for gimmick like the one on Magic6 Pro (which only provides 1EV of light intake adjustment), but a granular multi-step variable aperture such as those found on Pura 70 Ultra or Xiaomi 14 Ultra - Just like what pretty much all modern compact cameras have built-in.

This will become extremely crucial because there's a good chance that we will soon surpass type 1 sensors and enter the MFT territory, and having a totally out-of-control shallow depth of field would ruin a lot of moments for users.

The rest of X100 Ultra's specs seem nice, especially the telephoto camera that doubles as a very capable close-up camera. The 20x "macro" shot samples didn't look pixel-sharp when zoomed in, but they looked pretty damn fantastic for a phone camera.

Now only if this was released internationally.. sigh.

By the way, dslr is about having mirror that dulirects light into sensor responsible for focus system. It has nothing to do with being pro or amateur camera.
