jiyen235, 13 May 2024How is the chinese software? Any notable quirks? And how ha... more2 beefs with the phone, 1st lack of android auto which i fixed buying a cracked s10 for 100 euro and let it in my car always and i save on battery too now, would leave it there even if i get a phone with android auto now.
2nd decent but not great battery life but given how much bigger it got now on ultra i'd say this is fixed now
it got android 14 like in january , i got constant updates, I like origin os, i like the fact the face unlock or keeping the screen ON while looking at it works just as good as on huawei, samsung drove me nuts on these two, i love the large fingerprint sensor that works even with dry or wet hand unlike samsung which is a hit and miss then, I like that remembering passwords are saved locally and not sent to the cloud like on samsung and there are other small things that don't come in my mind right now.
I don't remember finding any bugs, is snappy and lag free.
Yes in some places you don't have english, like the theme app which funnily enough I managed to use it just by intuition but other than that you don't really use anything on a daily basis that is not in english ,i think i found some chinese letters on "find my phone" app too but that was just 1 time setup and forget about it. I wouldn't worry about this, 99% of settings are in english and so are the app you use.

Vasra, 13 May 2024It's just not the hardware. Vivo still lacks in softwa... morei have x90 pro+ and my wife had s23 ultra, you are nuts if you think samsung has better cams, sure, in 1 out of 5 scenarios samsung might look better but overall?no and my wife has iphone 14 now and the main cam is almost as good as vivo's so better than samsung's but needed more exposure time in low light meaning more chances of blurry photos or blurry moving objects,in zoom vivo is better than both, samsung tends to oversharpen a lot and between the optical range zoom looks like crap especially if is not broad daylight

jiyen235, 13 May 2024yes I understand it'd cover everything but I personall... moreAbout the selfie thing, yes, I'd love to take more selfies, and I am a bit of a selfie nut, but my Pixel 7 Pro's 21mm selfie is really restrictive in what I can do. The optics are bad, the sensor is bad, the lack of autofocus is bad, and the lens is just too wide for regular selfies but not wide enough to be useful for ultrawide selfies. Plus, the edge detection is so hilariously bad (even worse at 1× zoom than at 0.7× zoom) that it's just awful to use most of the time.

I'm really interested in buying this Ultra so I'd like to know how a user feels. My main problem would be bugs, I just wouldn't want translation errors, buggy app installs, etc.

Anonymous, 13 May 2024I am confused about those camera specs. My iqoo 12 already ... moreIt's like a Toyota Camry vs a BMW M5.

A Camry is comfy, looks good, and does all you need.

The BMW is fast, looks great, has quirks but also is fast and handles (at least used to) like a dream. Basically something you want. Your IQOO 12 fulfills your needs and a lot of your wants. It's a 7.5/10 cameraphone in the current market and the Vivo is going to be a 10.

The main camera is 1 inch, the zoom camera has longer reach and has macro capabilities and the UW cam is bigger and wider. For context, the X100 Ultra's zoom cam is larger in size than the X100s/X100's main cam.

Vasra, 13 May 2024It's just not the hardware. Vivo still lacks in softwa... moreIf you think the Samsung phones have better cameras then I must say I find your opinion comical. Vivo's photos are artifact ridden yes but compared to whatever Samsung is doing it's pristine. You either have seen Samsung's best photos against Vivo's worst or you don't know what you're talking about. I've used Samsung for a decade and know a lot of the quirks. It's just the Samsung way. Samsung may have more realistic colors but remember, Vivo has Zeiss Natural. So you get vibrancy and natural colors both in the same phone.

And videography is behind Apple? Yeah but not too far, it's basically like comparing an 8/10 with a 9/10, Vivo only needs to be less aggressive with its video processing (like sharpening) and better metering so that exposure shifts are handled faster. Otherwise they're quite great at videos. Take a look at The Tech Phenomena's comparisons, he has 100% cropped photos in some instances so you can see the details and compare easily.

YUKI93, 13 May 2024Even though it's a shame not to see a secondary native... moreXiaomi didn't sell the 13 Ultra properly globally, so I think Vivo is also trying to first maintain a foothold first and then sell it globally. Like take a look at Oppo, they're nowhere to be seen so I think Vivo and Oppo will come back to the global market together or at least one of them will next year.

Darth Caesium, 13 May 2024The reason why I said 2600-step is because Xiaomi has done ... moreyes I understand it'd cover everything but I personally find it tough to find the difference between f/1.6 and f/2.0 so any microadjustments to me would just be overkill, I think 4 stops would be pretty damn interesting between f/1.6 and f/4.0. The difference would be more tangible.

Damn, your selfie needs are extreme. Are you a selfie queen? Lmaoo jokes aside though I kind of understand you but I personally am content with a 20-23 mm lens. I'd say the best bet would be an 18-20 mm lens that you can then crop in, so if it were the JN1, you can crop in upto 2x without much. Due to your selfie needs I'd say Huawei is your best bet, maybe Honor too. I really liked the V30 Pro's shots and if Vivo can implement the JN1 into a flagship that'd be a killer selfie shooter with the V3 chip.

Yeah the Pixel's flat display is the only one I can accept. Samsung has gone too far with the flat thing, their phone is just an uninteresting brick now. The other display that I think is the perfect middle ground is the Xiaomi 14 Ultra's display. Curvy enough to be nice to swipe but not so curvy that reflections ruin your day.

Hmm tandem displays sound interesting. Any released products/devices using them besides the iPad? I think it's mostly an efficiency thing that allows the OLED to reach higher brightness without heating too much, which is why Apple didn't go with OLED until now and used Mini-LED before. If efficiency is the main thing then yeah tandem displays would be great but claims are only claims, no one can prove them and recent OLED displays on phones are amazing and you're bound to break your phone's display faster than you're going to get burn-in imo.

Yeah matte is a completely subjective thing. I personally wouldn't have minded matte if it were let's say a Camera because you'll mostly be shooting outside and you just need something to see but this is a phone that's used both outside and inside, mostly inside so the glossy finish is superior imo. Armor's resistance is indeed amazing on paper and I'd really love a phone with it but without the matte coating. I like watching videos in the evening and at night on my phone and the OLED screen looks absolutely stunning. It'd be a shame to destroy it with a matte coating.

I want to be excited but seeing the stumble that the Magic6 Pro has with its super high MP count on a low (admittedly too low) magnification tele lens worries me. I suppose we'll have to wait for the reviews.

Vivo still lacks in software processing of photos and esp. videos. All the reviews clearly show this : too much artefacts, not enough resolution and clear errors in colour processing. This is where Apple and Samsung still shine. Give it 2-3 more years and Vivo might catch up. But for now, for video iPhone still reigns supreme (and no, I'm not an iPhone user nor an Apple fan).

Even though it's a shame not to see a secondary native telephoto camera here, that 200MP sensor is more than enough to negate the loss. No phone have that sensor being used as a telephoto camera.

P.S. Vivo also launched a camera kit for the X100 Ultra. That is easily a direct rival to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra with its Photography Kit. If only Vivo would sell this phone globally like Xiaomi did.
