This is all I've been asking Google to do for the last year and they are finally delivering. Small doesn't mean compromised.

Anonymous, 14 May 2024Most sold pixel. Why would they stop making ? Because the 9 is the new 9a. It's the same physical size as the 9 Pro, but with large bezels. That sounds like a budget phone to me. Google is just following Apple's lead and releasing three new phones at the same time each year.

Man, imagine if Pixel devices had the latest Snapdragons like Gen2 and Gen3 they would be the perfect devices, especially now with longer support.

Tooooo many models and rubbish naming. The pixel 8a might as well not exist. Their A line for a cheaper device is all wrong. I think this is how it should be in my opinion.
Pixel 9a ~$200-250 - Cheap entry model, small
                                Pixel 9 ~ $400-500 - Suitable for most,
                                Pixel 9 pro ~ $700-800 - same size as 9, better specs
Pixel 9 pro XL ~ $999+ - biggest and best

"The Pixel 9 Pro and and Pro XL have three 50 MP cameras on the back.[...]a periscope telephoto as well, for 5x optical zoom."
If that's true, that sounds disappointing:
No 200 megapixel main camera, which could improve photos at for example 80mm.
And still only 50 megapixel for a "5x" periscope camera. I would have expected at least 64 megapixel (in combination with a large effective lens diameter due to diffraction).
When I compared the Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 8 Pro in a store, the periscope camera of the 8 Pro had basically no advantage over the 7 Pro. The Pixel 7 Pro's 116.5mm 48 megapixel periscope camera has an effective lens diameter of 5.43mm, whereas the new Vivo X100 Ultra has 8.4mm. This means that theoretically, a 110 megapixel 120mm Quad Bayer camera would make sense regarding diffraction.

I also hope they focus on battery life with a decent 5,100mAh capacity, and a chipset that uses Samsung's new fabrication

That's so that we get efficiency above the QC 8g3 (or at least matching the MTK D9300), which is possible now (see news). The current Tensor G3 seems to be very mixed, I would almost just prefer a "midrange" QC 7g2+ from Late-2022 than the Tensor G3 in Late-2023, and it doesn't get better when looking at the Tensor G2 (MTK D8200) and the Tensor G1 (QSD 778) comparisons.

I may be in the minority, but dayum, these designs look fresh. Very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Sharp corners may be less ergonomic, but it's got more of that premium feel imo.

                                        I'm liking this.
Hopefully the "Pixel 9 Ultra" as was called earlier by GSMArena is physically NOT larger. So if it's 162 x 76 x 8.5mm size and 200 grams weight, for real-world comfort, ergonomics, and pocketability.
