Anonymous, 25 May 2024Sony phones are priced at an excellent price point consider... moreYou gotta be kidding right, S24 Ultra pretty much wipes the floor with Xperia 1 VI other than the features like MicroSD and headphone jack, and while I like those things, most consumers do not care.
That's not mentioning the actual useful features like the local AI, S pen and Dex. There's a reason why Xperia 1 caved and stopped using their own aspect ratio and no longer using 4K, people just don't care.
Sony's branding is much weaker than that of Samsung now in the smartphone space and Sony needs a decent price discount from Samsung otherwise no one would buy their own, don't let me do all the talking, let's look at the sales of Xperia 1 VI and S24 Ultra at the end of the year.

David 040882, 20 May 2024Uhm, there's literally a whole lot of other options th... moreI think you don't (want to) get it... you know you're clearly not the target audience of the 10 VI, right? Of course those features you've mentioned are the most important for the majority (I'd say 90-95%) of the market, but for the remaining 5-10% (where I'm included) they are absolutely secondary. You know, I never had a phone with a display having > 60hz refresh rate, if I had one *probably* I would see any difference and *maybe* that would be important for me, but the truth is that isn't, and I couldn't care less. My wife has a Galaxy A22 (90hz refresh rate) and although I've barely used the phone, I can't tell any difference from my own's display. By the way, my only phone for the last 5 years is a Galaxy A40, a ~100000 Antutu score device that was low/midrange even when it was released, back in 2019. I'm still enjoying it a lot because the battery is like brand new, I love its AMOLED screen, it is compact, light, has FM radio, a microSD card slot, a 3.5mm jack, costed only 200€ and survived countless falls throughout the years... in the end, the fact that it is 100% working (although a little bit slow) is the main reasion preventing me from getting the 10 VI immediately.
I know it is a minority, but judging from the comments below thankfully I'm not alone on this. I prefer to have a phone that is built to last, compact, IP68 and has a great battery life than one of the 328484843834 almost identical phones that appear daily everywhere (GSM Arena included), boring behemoths weighing over 200 grams, where I can't have expandable storage and I have to choose over listening to wired music via an unpractical dongle or charge the battery. For me that's far more important than scoring 1 million points on Antutu. I prefer to score half of it and have all the features I need. For me, the 10VI doesn't seem perfect (although the build quality seems great, i's nevertheless expensive, also because it doesn't even bring a cable + charger included; It doesn't have FM radio either, and personally I think it should be smaller), but it's the closest we can get for a entry-level/midrange phone targetting these kind of features.
Finally, I don't understand all the ranting going on here, why people even bother bashing on a phone's spec/news page, knowing that they will never like it in the first place? (because is not targeted towards them) It's like I went mocking on the S24 Ultra or Pura 70 Ultra pages, devices that I find plainly boring... and by the way, I don't have any opinion on the "odd" aspect ratio (because I never had a Sony, or phone like this), but why "looking like a TV remote" is a thing? It is bad or good? LOL, c'mon... I urge to live up to the day where someone will say that the 10 VI (or any other phone) also pees on the bed.

k0vasz, 22 May 2024Sony phones are:
- expensive
- not available at service p... moreSony phones are priced at an excellent price point considering Samsung S24 Ultra does NOT allow for MicroSD cards therefore a 512GB costs £1,350 and £1,550 for 1TB.
Further to this, they are giving away their best headphones which is actually the best on the market for FREE which is worth around £300. So in fact, you are getting a flagship device for £1,000.
Sony phones are of much better quality than Samsung phones. I think you're just hating for the wrong reasons

I really wanted to like this phone but it's very blurry telephoto camera is a no go for me right now...
Sony please fix the telephoto camera, use some ai deblurring and ai noise removal if necessary it would really make this the best camera phone of 2024!
Untill then the telephoto camera current state is a no go for me.

Sony phones are:
- expensive
- not available at service providers (ie. less accessible)
- have the bare minimum regarding software support (3+1 year would be fine for me, but not at that price point, and not when others are providing 4/5+ years of support)
The phones themselves are cool, but I feel like Sony don't want me to buy one

Yes, i would buy most SONY products without hesitation as their quality & build is especially of high quality. The downgrade in Resolution is the only thing that would stop me here. I understand that 4K resolution went above eberybodys heads last time, but thats NO excuse to ruin it for the rest of us SONY phone owners as those people will never buy a SONY anyway & that was the only gripe they could come up with to complain about superior Tech to their sub-par phones in Tech battle convo's online.

It doesn't matter. Hardly anyone will care about Sony phones.
If Sony hadn't made plenty of money in its other businesses, its phone division would have gone the way of LG or HTC.

I would buy 1 VI but they make it so difficult to acquire in Mexico.
Amazon sells 1V but all international sellers with no warranty. It would be nice if Sony decided to sell world wide.

Some Anonymous Prson, 20 May 2024The only "issues" I have about "smart" ... moreNot bad. I also have some music collection and wired earphones as well as wireless ones. I use wired with my laptop at home. But I don't like to move wires with me. So when walking I use only wireless. Plus my smartwatch to control music and leave my phone in my pocket. So I don't have to hold my phone like many do. As for micro sd card slot my phone don't have that either but it has enough storage. So if necessary I can move everything to my type c flash drive. No issues at all for me.

Anonymous, 20 May 2024So the lack of micro sd slot and headphone jack is your iss... moreThe only "issues" I have about "smart" phones is that manufacturing them is environmentally destructive and their usage is destructive to society. Like most people these days, I rely on one and there are features I want that few phones these days have. Yes, I do enjoy having access to an off-line large music collection. I do appreciate a user friendly design and UI. Sony phones are the best for that these days from what I've seen. I don't really care about which brand I use but there are some corporations I do despise more than others due to their political contributions and extremely unethical behavior, not that there are many who aren't atrocious. It's just a phone. I'd probably buy a Fairphone if they were available where I am but they need to improve a bit, from what I've read. I don't know much about them but I appreciate the concept.
