20 inches is smaller than a typical "work" monitor (22-24), while 15 inches is laptop territory. So you take a laptop sized screen and "unfold" it, making it smaller than a typical monitor... I don't see anyone who, in their sane mind, would pay $3500 for it. Just for hinges and foldability. A professional monitor costs around that price but offers bigger screen and much better image quality. The best VR Apple can offer costs the same, but offers, well, VR, which is... just a tiny bit more than a foldable screen. Laptop - you can buy some of the best performing laptops for this kind of money. If you want screen size, you can go as far as 65 or even 77 inches... but it won't have a hinge and won't be foldable.
Me, I'd probably go on a 2 week vacation in Switzerland. Far better deal than a foldable, for me at least.

Anonymous, 25 May 2024This isn’t Apple’s doing, they do not manufacture anything ... morePatenting something and manufacturing something are different things. Apple designs most of its tech itself, and maintains its own OS. True, they don't build anything themselves, but you make it sound like someone shopping.

I’m sure LG or Samsung will have the kind of screen they’re looking for eventually, what is available isn’t mass-manufactured yet.

We’re not ready yet for another expensive and useless device, the AVP is still in limbo as a state of the art paperweight.

Interesting concept but that's what it is, a concept. It won't sell too much because not many people buy iPads why would they even buy a folding tablet then that costs so much? I mean a few would "cus it's Apple" but I don't see this selling much.
A tri fold that goes from 5-7 inches to 10-14 inches to 18+ inches would be something that many would be interested in I think, Apple can hit the super big iPad market they want and also hit the normal phone market as well.

According to Ming Zu, Apple will release first foldable iPhone under the name iFold in 2028 at the price of $3799, higher price than expected mostly due to dollar depreciation.

JLC, 24 May 2024Apple's device will be as good as other's at the ... moreApple did patent a foldable laminated glass screen that has micro etched bend points. Which would have no crease and fingernail proof unlike current plastic screens with UTG glass that still have plastic surface.
So unless they pay for patent licensing fees....nobody is going to use it.

CargoJoe, 25 May 2024Foldable but not a tablet or a MacBook. Maybe a new categor... moreIt is not a new category. You can buy such products right now from ASUS and Lenovo.
I think the next gen. from ASUS and Lenovo could be successful because of the X series chips which would make these devices running much longer on battery and much faster and also less bulky. And of course less noisy.
I would not pay the 5,000 as Lenovo is asking, but 3,500 would be ok if they come with the X series chips.

Apple is secretly sucking off their competitors when it comes to cutting-edge technology that they can't replicate themselves 😂
(Well LGs obv not in the phone market anymore, but you get my point)
