Yeah, I use Messenger constantly, but saying that it's far superior is blasphemy. ICQ worked pretty great back in the day.

I remember the days when forums were active, people used MSN Messenger, AIM, and ICQ to connect with one another. Everything was so fun and exciting back now. Social media and giving the third world internet ruined everything.

This brought me so many memories. I used to have Parlingo, MSN(Hotmail), Skype and Twitter. They used to be very good apps to use everywhere since my samsung star2 had those pre-installed. Now those apps are either disappearing or turne into data-collection mines for maximum profit. How time flies...

It's strange how I still remember my ICQ number, even if I have not used it since 2005.
I remember everyone in school had ICQ back then, it was so cool. Thanks for the memories.

Well havent had ICQ but my cousin had.
Here in Slovakia the most popular simmilar to facebook, messenger, ICQ was Azet or Pokec.
Both are the same app. Its a Slovakian version of Facebook which is here since 1997 as a chating and dating app then its been many times reworked and many features been added.
Now its simmilar to facebook with many features included like house and car sales or bidding, emails, plenty of disccounts and delivery services and many else.
But te main still stands chating and dating app where people meet at one place or in a one online room and could discuss about anything.
Back in 1997 with DSL internet and with data per used bytes and kilobytes this were pretty expensive even the app was for free to use just like the facebook.
Since around 2001 and with unlimited internet fr fixed money this app had like 10-20 million of people and active user base.
Well thats a short story of Slovakian version of Facebook called Azet.sk or Pokec.sk
Lot of memories.
Back in april 2008 i met my current girlfriend there and we are together since then.
A story for maybe another time.
Rest here: Source Wikipedia.

>We're all the better for it, of course, with WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger and Telegram and iMessage and all the rest of the services we use today, which are much superior to ICQ and the likes.
I don’t know about that. The first two are owned by Facebook which is evil, Telegram is filled with conspiracy theorists and iMessage has limited availability. However, since it is owned by a Russian company, that now makes it even worse than the others. But the ICQ from before 2010, maybe that‘s what’s been missing ever since.
