Both hardware (different bands etc...) and software (obviously with chinese characteristics). Secondly - because of import tax etc... in china, iphones in china cost almost double that of in US. So buying iphone for double the price so you can sell it for less than half to europeans is very short lived business plan.

That's how competition in the marketplace works. Apple feels they have to lower their prices in China to compete. They don't have the same feeling anywhere else because their sales aren't threatened in nearly the same way, especially in the US where they're protected by the US government.

Observant consumers, if they use their brains, will see that brand new iphones older than 15 are too close to each other on prices. And you go to used markets to see cheaper deals, provided you are careful to not choose models close to 8i0% BH.
This applies to other brands as well.

Apple has never discounted to this extent in other countries. If sales are down, Apple has proven that any self-respecting company can give up margins and discount prices to any extent, so if you want to get an iPhone cheap, everyone should stop buying iPhones. If no one buys an iPhone for three months, Apple will start discounting iPhones worldwide.
