Jim, 29 May 2024Monopoly.........,anyone? LolTelcos acting as monopolies is nothing new in the US. Their cable companies are pretty much monopolies in their respective regions. In residential areas, usually you have only one choice of ISP, two if you’re lucky.

US smartphone market relies so heavily on the carriers that they have huge power over the market. And unfortunately, these consolidations are unavoidable due to the large area and lower densities of the US and the heavy investment in infrastructure required to be a carrier, leaving just the big boys surviving so far.
I mean it's not until 4G/LTE that US even have their phones interchangeable between carriers. In the 3G era, each carriers pretty much had their own version of a phone (you cannot use AT&T 3G phone on T-Mobile due to different bands, and not on Verizon due to different tech). Remember the various Samsung Galaxy S for each carrier? That's how bad US phone market is. And the funny thing is, the population are still willing to pay up, despite the possibility of number porting.

Rich, 29 May 2024Wow.......3 days after getting nasty text from TMobile sayi... moreWho do you suggest? How difficult is it to switch and how difficult is it to keep your number? I've been considering it, as well, but I'm on a plan with my mother, she is in her 90s and I can't leave her alone long. These greedy corporations need to be controlled by they won't. I'm using a Sony 5iii and it'll probably have worse coverage on ATT or maybe be blocked.

Mills, 29 May 2024The 3 major cellular carriers in the US is AT&T, Verizo... moreI was told by a clerk in a t mobile store that my Sony (the 5iii) is illegal because they don't sell it. They told me that they're going to block my mother's phone because it's time for her to buy a new one. It has 4g. I don't like Apple but I will say that her phone has lasted long (for a phone) and still works fine, other than a rapidly draining battery. It's a 6s or something. Headphone jack. She's in her 90s and has mild dementia. She forgot her Apple password, e mail password, etc. It's going to be very difficult setting up a new phone and the changed user interface will drive her nuts.

The 3 major cellular carriers in the US is AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile. All three have prepaid carriers (Metro for T-Mobile, Visible and Total for Verizon and Cricket Wireless for AT&T).
The only phone brands present in the US is iPhones and Samsung Galaxy A's. My next (own) phone wil definitely be OnePlus.

MakeMotoBetterAgain, 29 May 2024the us has no choice, soon it will be 3 options, and if you... moreWould say Asus, HTC, Sharp and Sony. Lemme break it down.
ASUS is under fire for RMA and their Zenfone 11 Ultra is bad.
Sharp is still alive, just not that present in the US. Same with HTC
Sony however, they're doing just fine. However their midrange 10 V and VI needs work.
