Sony Xperia 1 VI vs. Xperia 1 V

Which is better, the new or the old?

Yeah, it sucks and is very disingenuous given that Xperia 5 V which shares the same camera app, main camera and SoC as Xperia 1 V somehow has this 2x crop zoom from 48MP full resolution output.
Sony is notorious for being extremely lazy when it comes to giving older devices new features via software updates (Not just phones but for cameras too, a1 still doesn't have a video animal eye AF that is present on a7IV even after the V2.0 update, despite the fact that the hardware fully supports the feature) so this is nothing surprising, but it does make you question if they really care about their audience who have paid 1.4K for this.

That even bit digital zoom out of oppo to match vivo FOV, still better on oppo.

Dont forget, oppo has exmor while vivo use isocell.
    Sony sensirs have higher fwc.

Hp9 ( based on hp3) is low tier HP series ( hp1 and hp2 the high tier) while imx890 made to be main cam.of many phones. It is high tier exmor rs.

Anonymous, 01 Jun 20241v did not get this option with A14 update. And it wont (... moreThe longer working distance and 85mm field of view of Vivo's periscope lens aren't substantial disadvantages that you think they are because:

      1) When shooting moving objects in macro, it's easier to keep track of shooting from slightly afar rather than stalking them by moving your camera. Also if you're shooting small creatures like insects, you wouldn't want to scare them away by getting very close to them. According to GSMArena (Can't find an official source so we should take it with a grain of salt) the telephoto camera of Xperia 1 VI has a 2x magnification, whereas Vivo says X100 Ultra's has 3.7x, so there's that.

      2) Vivo's camera takes in more light per field of view, and simply has more pixels to work with during the crop zoom due to its 200MP resolution - To put it into perspective, at 120mm equivalent field of view, X100 Ultra's telephoto camera takes in 2.82 times more light compared to Xperia's telephoto, making it a better option if you're not shooting in perfectly well-lit environments. Plus, if you try to shoot a bunch of those 230mm equivalent macro shots taken with X100 Ultra with Xperia, you would end up with a brob because it would have to be upscaled from 3.3MP.

I haven't seen anything on Weibo, but a few posts comparing the X7 Ultra and X100 Ultra's telephoto I found on X suggest that the latter has an increasing advantage as you digitally zoom in further.

Should've kept the 4K. Sony is probably the only company able to do 4K LTPO if they wanted to. They just decided not to for sake of "mainstream". Maybe a 21:9 4K LTPO at 6.7 inches for this.

Oh well. At least it's no brick like most Ultra. It on itself is the most Pro of them all.

i have the Xperia 1 V and i admit that the 1 VI wins in the some camera shots but i'm still in love with the 21:9 even though the 1 VI looks so nice in it's new ratio..

Especially considering the cost saving in downgrading resolution and all the other same things... no the cost is not worth it.
Sony has always been one of the most over priced. But their fans will still praise it as the ultimate anyway

ZeissKia, 01 Jun 2024Honestly the aspect ratio of the previous model was better ... moreI can understand getting rid of 4K but I'm not sure why they got rid of the 21:9 aspect ratio. It was one of the few selling points the 1 V had, but now that it's gone most people are better off buying something cheaper and most likely better than the 1 VI. Micro SD, 3.5mm jack and no notch aren't good enough selling points for me personally

The Xperia 1 VI looked extremely interesting as a Samsung alternative, until they announced the price. I'd paid a smidgen over a grand for this. Not 1,400 flippin' euros.

And it wont ( sony could have done it already if they wanted) .
1vi has it because and only the fact there will be no 5vi.

New cam app will not make to older phones .

Vivo periscope can focus 10 or 12cm away.
Magnification is not same level.of this one.
Some reports on weibo say photos from its periscope are inferior compared to 65mm from oppo.

When does the resolution incur enough penalties that it not be worth it? I think they made the right "compromise" with the VI. If you want 4K, the V is still on sale.

Good thing for me, is that there isn't some more expensive US model to chase with the VI...I can buy either the Asia or Europe version of the VI and still be good. I found it online with free shipping/no tax for $1165 while the US version of the V is sold on Sony's site for $1199 with taxes. So yeah, easy choice for me.
