"However, the 4K resolution was rarely utilized. In fact, there are only a couple of scenarios (video playback included) that triggered the full 4K resolution. The rest of the time, the system prefers 1080p. So, at the end of the day, you aren't missing out on pixels."

Now, there is ZERO scenarios where 4K can be used gsmarena. Can't you see this?
Downscaling 1644 to 1096p makes it better than native 1080p. Tech site should know this.

          Mark 5 takes better photos.
This one has samples that look like out of iphone. 🤮
Brighter than it should be, also signs of sharpening (grass of hotel shots).
As 🤮 as samsung, apple and google.
Update to fix this is necessary.

Xperia 1 VI also does not have aptx Lossless. That is a significant downgrade on the newer model and you should have mention it.

It's a shame that they didn't return the notification LED.

I think the problem is that the Xperia 1v was bought by people like myself who always wanted top quality and top specifications with the feeling that they didn't just follow the crowd. Now it is just another phone that tries to blend in so that it sells more units. I bought my 1v last week after waiting to see how the 1vi was going to turn out, even with the updates on it I was really disappointed with Sony, so I decided not to buy it, I will wait to see what happens next year with the new model and if it still has these changes I will look somewhere else, I'm am sure some other manufacturer will jump at the chance and bring a phone out with a 4k screen and the aspect ratio of the 1v. The other reason I didn't buy it was the price, they are charging the same price as a 1v but it is a lot cheaper to make now. I have heard rumours of price cutting already and it is not even available to buy yet!

"VI" samples looks slightly overexposed to me. Especially with tele lenses. Needs some tweaking still.

Honestly the aspect ratio of the previous model was better imo. The phone was easier to grab now it's wide/wider as other phones.
The changes are small, too small for most people. Most of them didn't show anything interesting. Compared to the proce, to eg Pixel 8 Pro is best atm after discounts (shows often).

Samsung S24, S24+, S24 Ultra and Google Pixel 8/8Pro had good promotions, eg with a watch and headphones. Not like Sont with short, few units.
In addiotion it's currently easier to buy Google Pixel eg because now it show up in central and eastern Europe. Sony is not available eg (5V) in USA.
Previous one didint sell well ? Maybe because it priced and promoted in bad way ? Google Pixel is reportedly selling quite well in Japan, well if Sony lose market even in Japan against Pixel's ?!

Google Pixel 8 256GB cost 570€ in end of 2023, how much did Sony 5V cost ? Unfortunately Sony takes good photo only/often during the day. Night photos still sukcs, they are worse then Xiaomi, Samsung, iPhone, Pixel, Vivo.
In general the photo Pro app separation is joke, photon from auto settings like 99% of people do are average. Even Redmi or Poco makes enough good photos.

It's shame that such a brand isn't number one in photo cameras of smarthponrs. It is. When last time people compare Samsung Vivo, iPhone, Pixel to Sony as a quality standard in smartphone photography ?! It hsould be fererence for other companies. Today some peopne dont even know that Sony still produces phones.

Ive use many Sony phones like XZ, 1 Compact, 1 and 5 II, older ones like K800i.
Jack 3,5mm and SD card are not enough to pay 900-1400€. Samsung or Pixel have trade program, promotions, longer support, Sony will desappear or will be only for tiny group of brand fans.
It's shame when LG, HTC, Nokia leave space Sony can't push harder, find some way to be in top, even after Huawei get ban (google) in USA/EU.

LG did the same on the LGV60 and look how that turned out.

Personally, I'd get last year's Mk5 and wait for next year's Mk7. Despite the new and longer 7.1x variable zoom, it's still not enough to negate the Mk5. Also, there will be the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 with in-house Oryon CPUs, which makes the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 somewhat less appealing. Tbh, I skipped all 2024 Snapdragon-powered flagship phones, including Sony, because of the upcoming 8 Gen 4.

                                Sony Xperia 1 VI - €1399, Vivo X100 Ultra - $899 (both for 12/256 version).

Still happy with my current 1 iv. I'm really not happy with the 1 vi's wider screen.

It's baffling that Sony still hasn't updated the camera software on Xperia 1 V to match that of 1 VI or at least 5 V in terms of 2x crop zoom, it's still using the crop from a binned 12MP image which makes it look extremely pixelated. 1 VI performs so much better because it uses a centre portion of the full-res (48MP) shot instead.

I wonder how Xperia 1 VI's new telemacro camera performs in comparison to Vivo, Xiaomi and Huawei - The current champion is obviously the X100 Ultra with its ginormous 200MP sensor, but Xperia shouldn't be too far behind due to its shorter working distance of 4cm (although this also means it's not as well-suited for capturing insects and other small creatures) and 120mm native field of view.

Damn those telemacro shots are incredible!!
Plus the insane battery life is also a very welcome upgrade!
Now if only all these can be morphed into a (premium) mid-range phone, maybe a Xperia 7 or 8, rather than the cheap and stupid 10 series, and keep it smaller than the 1 ofc
